Well, last Friday April 17, I retired for the second time.  Hopefully it will take this time.  Before the Corona panic, I gave my notice as I was planning on attending the ride in Hattiesburg.  Now that the ride has been cancelled, I find myself all dressed up with no place to go.  Since Oakland county MI, and the Detroit metro area is on of the local areas of highly probable contraction and/or death, I've been staying at My son's house in Scotts MI (kazoo).  Not out of fear of death, but because my son is a single parent, critical worker, and his 10 yo daughter needs looked after since schools are closed.

So I was able to get a ride in on Monday, as I drove Cheniqua from Troy to Kzoo against the Fuhrer's orders. Right now it is sunny , but cold and high winds, so I discovered one of the benefits of retirement, NAPS!

I hope to get on the road soon and bump into all y'all.  Ride safe when allowed.

Joe, I don't think you can actually reretire.  That you went back to work says you were not tired enough the first time to be retired.

Anyway, congratulations on your real retirement.  I hope it will be more than enjoyable for you and yours.   cooldude

congrats you finally fully retired and good for you for looking after 10 year old granddaughter.   I wish I could retire just turned 50 and if the kids were outta college age 25 and up with good jobs I would highly consider retiring well before age 60 when that time comes and 99% sure (never say never) fully retire the first time.   Although,  if late 50's I could find a part time job I could enjoy say 20-30 hours per week I might be tempted just to afford to eat and pay basic bills is all.   The daily grind of taking orders from a clueless and useless boss even talking to her makes me puke in disgust. Angry

I see everyone retiring age 60-62 around me no one ever anymore, besides the lady I work with age 68 now working 20 hours per week with us,  retires well before age 65.    I do not foresee me living past age 75 so might as well enjoy the next 24 years or so right?

Well done for looking after grand daughter.

Paul,

Thanks.  I have my Granddog to give me a hand.  She's like a shadow.

You need me to start looking for property in God's Country ?

Joe,

As a matter of fact i do.  I wish I'dve bought that 20 acres that was for sale by you a couple years back.  I need 10 to 20 acres with a decent house and pole barn or big ass garage.  I'd like to get enough property to build a couple more modest homes on it and start the Stratemeier family compound and move the family to God's country.  Let me know if you come across anything.

Congratulations Skin  cooldude I hope to join you in 5 weeks. (Not in Michigan though, just in the ranks)

Bob,

It will be here before you know it.  I hope it works out for you and what ever you do, don't move to MI, at least not until we get rid of our Nazi governor.

Joe, I don't think you can actually reretire.  That you went back to work says you were not tired enough the first time to be retired.

Anyway, congratulations on your real retirement.  I hope it will be more than enjoyable for you and yours.   cooldude

Carl,

The reason I went back was that the war department reneged on our plan to move to Tennessee.  I figured as long as I was stuck in MI I might as well continue working.  They actually called me as I was driving home on my last day and asked me if I wanted to come back.  It actually worked out rather well, but it's time to quit.  If I don't Move to TN, I'll at least be heading south in the winter.  I can't stand the congestion of the Detroit Metro area any longer or the MI winters.  The summer aren't bad if you don't mind road construction.

Congrats on re-retirement!

That's the plan.  I hope to see you at the HHR.

It's like everything else, Just keep trying until you get it right.  I hope to see you at the HHR.

Ain't that the truth.  If she doesn't want to join me in God's country, she can suffer alone in MI.  (Of course she may be suffering me being around and welcome the relief)

Thanks and good luck with your plans.  I was initially going to retire at 55, but when the obama crime syndicate got elected, I put it off.  I'm glad I did.  I'll be 64 in Sept, so I figure I got about 10 years of riding left, maybe a little more.  I might have to do a Smokinjoe and sell a valk and get a geezerglide.

LOL!  I was just joshing you.  It's good to be in demand.  When it's time it's time.  Too many of us work too long and bite into the reward we've waited a lifetime to enjoy.

I'll bet it is Mike.  You should be up to 1.75 sheds by now, or are those rafters fighting you?

Carl, I knew you were joshing.  My sons have been bugging me to quit for a while now.  I plan to make some extended visits now.  I'm sure they will regret bugging me very quickly.

155 acres at the end of the road I live on it's got a old farmhouse on it  probably not worth fixing up or maybe it is  Undecided  It's got a huge creek running through it. It was priced at $500,000 I'm sure as long as it's been for sale that price is negotiable.

Once they open things back up I'm going to be busier than a one armed paper hanger.

But, right now I've got tons of free time.

Either way if you find yourself in my neighborhood give me a shout, I'd be glad to share some wind with you.

saw some land up north in WI (yah right colder and MORE snowy winters) only 1100 sq. ft. ranch home nicely upkept, etc. and nice  yard on 25 acres surrounded by about 10 smaller lakes which is my cup of tea and ATV/snowmobile trails all over.  ONLY 175K total with the 25 acres of land some woods.  Gee,  now I can sell my house for 170K or pretty close for sure 165K and almost break even, quit both our jobs, and live off the land hunting deer and fishing for panfish mostly?   Think we can do it for next 20 years or so?  Might need a part time job to pay the bills though aye?   Roll Eyes

Trying to convince the misses to do this before it is sold before we have a chance to drive 4-5 hours north to go look at it as well before sold at least.    My job do not care about can pick up any job for what they are paying me vs. my wife of course being there same company 30 years now will be almost impossible to start over again with what she gets.

If kids were outta college on their own and both our moms still alive age 78 needing us (mostly my mom locally in asst. living) ,  if was not for those 2 things and closer to age 60 vs. age 50,  I'd be outta here in a split second!   cooldude   My neighbor but age 62 and wife age 60 (so about 10 years on us)  are doing what I want to do NOW moving up north in WI very near (about 30 minutes away) from the land/house I found for sale.  They got a house on a lake picked out but a fixer upper for 170K total.  Hopefully living the dream one day?   Wink     More snow in winter would suck though in the middle of nowhere in country but 30-45 minutes away from nearest big town.     I guess that is what my 4wd ATV is for and 4wd truck but have even gotten them both stuck in snow once and NOT fun to get either out that is for sure.  I guess I need a snowmobile next?

Thanks Paul, My son Eric has a place in Newnan, Ga.  I like Georgia and think I would prefer the north east to where he is, but it is nice there as well.  I'll check those out.
