My mother was a RN in the ICU, ER, Cardiac care, nurses are the unsung hero's and do most of the work and get the least pay, in comparison to the Dr's. We would go out to dinner occasionally on the tips she used to bring home.
I also helped her study for her RN since she was not always a nurse. My brother got into a bad accident, the cops wanted him left for dead in the car he looked so bad and was not moving. His friend said no way, he only had a scraped elbow. The car was a Tr3 and they went around the corner and flipped the thing. My brother because of the steering wheel, basically took most of the damage on the side of his face. His friend undid my brothers seat belt and he climbed out.
She made a deal with God while in the hospital and sitting at his bedside and said "I will be a nurse and help people if you give me my son back to me". Everyone loved her and she did nursing pretty much the rest of her life. The stories and things she would tell me of the things that happened to her would never cease to amaze me.
She had never been a religious woman and I dont ever remember a bible in the house, but I guess when your son is laying on a hospital bed and could go either way you become a Christian really fast.
Find out we may have a mutual friend Dr. Thomas Bruce Ferrara.

Many thanks to your hero! I got to know several NICU nurses while my grandsons spent 3 months in their unit growing from 2 lbs each to almost 5 lbs. while I couldn’t be with them much during that time, I never worried about the care they were receiving.

NICU nurses are angels on Earth. To do what they do day in and day out, to see what they see....... The extreme bookends of human emotion, on a daily basis, but keep going on. I had the honor of spending a month in their company when these guys came along as preemies, and I can never say thank you enough to every single NICU nurse I ever meet..... So tell her thank you, from a grateful daddy...

I remember when my daughter was born she was 3lbs and 4ozs and will always thank the nurses for all they did. The nurses at Georgetown hospital in D.C were and are wonderful. Remember holding my daughter in my hand wondering if she would be OK. The nurse told me she is fine she is just a minuture.

And I bet you long for those quiet days... these days.
It's MUCH quieter and easier to manage with 3 eight year olds than it was with 3 newborns! Oh <expletive> I don't know if I could survive those first 18 months again, that was non-stop screaming, crying, diapers, more crying, screaming, more diapers, mixing formula, screaming, crying, feeding, etc.... And the babies did a lot of screaming and crying too! Serk, My wife loved that picture. Glad to hear it. That was the NICU photographer, in the NICU on the day the boys came home. The girl was about to be disconnected from monitoring when she had a brady, getting her a 1 week (Or was it 5 days?) extension on her stay in NICU...

I've also been told I was loud then, and it never went away.

"I was told I had colic for a year after birth and they badly wanted to give me back. " My oldest son had colic, it was really hard cause all he would do is cry. more than once my wife called me up at work and said "if you don't come home and take this child, i'm throwing it out the window!" (he never got tossed) at 2 mos old he had to have surgery for an intestinal hernia because her cried so hard that he ruptured the sack your intestines are in.

Well, I think I was born with a weak... something. I had inguinal hernia repair at age 4. I don't remember much, except when they came to take me away in the hospital my mother cried, so I thought I was being taken away forever, so I got up on the gurney and punched and kicked the orderlies with everything I had, all the way to the OR. And when I saw all the stainless surgical tools laid out in the OR, I fought twice as hard. The next day in a pediatrics ward of boys, I tried to yank off my heavily taped bandage because I thought that was what was causing all my pain and discomfort. I've never been a good patient.... there is little patience in me. The other part of this story I do remember, a couple of the boys on that pediatric ward knew a bunch of words I had never heard before. The fact that these words irritated the heck out of the nurses intrigued me. When I got home and used those words with my mom, she shoved a bar of soap in my mouth.
