Front tire options - 2020
«

It's been about 3 years since I put my last one on and it's time for a new front tire. I've run several Metzelers in a row, with the only other tires being Avon Cobra and Avon Venom in the 110K on the bike.
Which other tires are currently being ridden, how do you like them, and would you recommend them, or not?
Thanks!

Avon chrome is my only choice.

I’ve had Metzlers and switched to Avon Chrome. Both great tires but it seems Avon is a bit more responsive

Bridgestone Exedra's is another choice. I've never had an issue with them but I'm not peg dragger either. 15,000 mi. which seems to be typical. Be sure to get the radial designation as some are offered in bias too. Shinko is a stickier option but low mileage life. If you don't ride more than 2,000 mi. a year, the Shinko would be a good option.

The Shinko 890 Journey is my favorite so far after trying Metzelers and Dunlop. It's reasonably priced, radial, and has excellent grip and handling. It looks like a sportbike tire, and rides like it. It has no problems if you want to put the peg on the ground, coupled with an Austone on the back(currently at about 23k, still about 50%).
The first 890 I had to retire at about 7000 miles due to damage, hit some debris on the road and it put a disconcerting gash in the tread, although it was nowhere near worn out otherwise. I put another 890 on but too early to tell on mileage, only have about 1500 on it right now.
I've heard good things about the Cobra Chrome but they certainly are proud of it. Buddy just put one on the front of his IS (with the Zeetex CT rear) so we'll see how it lasts. Avon left a bad taste in my mouth after a Venom delaminated a chunk of tread off going 90mph on my Vmax and I haven't run one since.
For all the bad rap Shinko gets for being "cheap tires", I've run loads of them and never had any sort of failures or quality defects.

I'm currently running a Bridgestone Exedra and it didn't last very long I do a lot of secondary roads some freeway riding and I'm not even getting 10K out of it before it's down to the wear bars. It wasn't an expensive tire that's One plus for it. I don't know what I'm going to do next maybe Avon. I know there are lots of opinions about Shinko Journeys and mine is I'll never buy another one. Just my 1.5 cents
