. . . back in the day (`99) I was making a choice between these two bikes. I opted for the the Valk.

I did the same thing...and also looked at an Ultra Classic HD...Rode that first....it was nice...the Venture never got out off the dealership floor....then I rode the Valk....well....I guess we all know how it ended...

Creeping up of 80k....20 years later....

Best bike ever....for me...

while I prefer the Valkyrie those Yamaha ventures ran forever and were dead on reliable

Same here, Sheets, except it was between 3 bikes in '97 (Yammi, Valk, Victory).
I made the right decision on the Valk back then, added several more over the years, and added the Victory Cross Country Tour in 2112   cooldude

Back in 2000 I was vacillating between a Valkyrie or a Suzuki Bandit 1200..... Walked into a screaming deal on an in the crate brand new '98 Valkyrie, that made the decision an easy one...
