Simply Awesome!!!

« on: December 14, 2009, 04:45:22 PM »

Replacing shock bushings that I received today. Grin
While changing preload setting, the lower shock mount rung off tickedoff
Now I have to get some new shocks Cry

I read some past post of the Progressive 440 shock being popular. But what is the difference between the 412, 430, and 440?

I have a Valk I/S, weigh 165 (wife 150), carry 25 lbs gear, solo most of the time.

Should I get the stock or HD?

Thanks for any advice Smiley

Y'all are way too light for the HD springs on the 440s. I weigh just a tad over 300 and my passenger is a bit less. The most I've had to run my 440s is the 4th line with the HD springs. I run with 0 lines solo.

Find a nice used pair of I/S shocks. Set 'em on 1 or 2 for solo and 3 or 4 for a long 2 up.
I had 412's but just out of warranty the LH shock started leaking  tickedoff. My buddy Rick {Tark} hooked me up with a set of good used I/S shocks from his wrecked '99 & I have found I like them better than the 412's.
2Q, are you in Jax?  If you need a set of stockers to get by with I can send you a pair of tired {90K miles} Tourer shocks until you get your choice of new shocks. PM me with your addy & I'll get 'em to you fast.
Kim & I are not little people {over 400 lbs together} & I have found that the I/S shocks set on 4 work very well 2 up. At y'alls weight I don't think you'll need HDs.  coolsmiley

If you speak to a rep at Progressive I think you will find that unlike the other models, the 440 only comes with a HD spring.  You could easily run it on a light setting and the 440 responds very well.  I now have both the 416 air shock and the 440 for long distance with heavy loads.  The 416 is comfortable, but if you travel long distance 2 up and packed, you should consider the 440.  I also tried the 412 but found it too weak and did not respond well with loads.  I realize it's different for different riders, but I have found that with the thread screw type settings on the 440, I have quite a bit of variable settings to work with.

Progressive has 440's and 440HD's listed, with different part numbers.  Why do you think they are all HD?

I have a set of stock Interstate shocks that have no miles on them.  Email me  if you are interested in them.  I use Progressive 412's HD, 11 1/2" installed before I took delivery of a new bike.
