It is very tragic how many senior citizens are dying in nursing homes who had no reason to
think they were on the fast track to extermination

Our government has made it so families can not get them out

Result is "healthy" ones get covid without even anyone knowing they had it till
the lung problems, breathing problems and pneumonia from lack of movement and then they die
ALONE by the thousands.  This is a national tragedy and we must fix this.

I would not want to go out like that and no senior should go out like that. Let them come home if there is a home to stay temporarily. If not they need better care and the workers need better protection by the state governments. It is a STATE problem

I am more than perfectly willing to keep driving 40 miles each way every week
food and rx shop for my mom and fix what I can fix around her house so she can stay home

At 87 yrs of age she has more than earned the right to pick the hill she is willing to die on (to quote one of my dads expressions).

She now has a kindle fire and now she can face time or skype or zoom call her great granddaughter. and her friends, go virtually to shul and take her senior classes.

I am going to look into what we can do about this starting with emailing AARP

If I had a loved one in a nursing / rest home right now - I'd move heaven and earth to get them out ASAP - even if I had to break in and physically take them over the staff's objections (at least if they were not displaying symptoms).

Many of the "old folks homes" around here have been encouraging family to move them if they could.

       After having done electrical work in nursing homes/senior centers and having made ambulance runs to same and having visited friends there  I hope and PRAY I NEVER EVER end up in one. And if I did have Family in one bring the L E Os and a cursed good reason Why I can NOT remove my Family under the current conditions. RIDE SAFE.

Last August we put my father-in-law in an adult facility, his dementia/Alzheimer’s got to a point we could not handle anymore after 13 months of trying, and we tried hard.

My wife hasn’t been able to see her dad for months, but his facility hasn’t had any issues, ZERO with either residents or employees and we get weekly reports from the facility and 2 of the people who work there live in our neighborhood so we can get some real good info as needed.

Early on we were told if you want them home feel free to remove them but they cannot return until all of this was over. Barbara’s not happy about not seeing her dad but understands. We tried FaceTime and he couldn’t do more than 2 minutes or so but he look great. About 3 weeks ago he insisted on leaving and when I say insisted that means he tried to break the door down and when they finally got him to understand he wasn’t leaving he took his clothes off and paraded around in protest, so at least he got his point across.

My mom was a nurse when I was a kid and she worked for a time at a nursing home.  She would take me into work with her and stick me in the TV room with the patients while she worked her shift (this was the 1970's).  I enjoyed it, it was like having a bunch of grandparents to hang out with (just like the VRCC).

One day, I asked her why a particular man was in what I thought of as a hospital, because he didn't look sick.  She told me that he wasn't sick but that his family didn't want him at home and they never visited him. 

Sad.  I think of him in these times and wonder if his family would allow an otherwise healthy man to be exposed to a virus like this just because they couldn't be bothered to have him around.

My first wife was a nurse, who worked with many terminally ill people.  She was very efficient, but never the mean nurse type, and many of her patients (that lasted a while) grew to love her like a daughter.  She used to complain to me that their families usually came to visit them right after hospitalization and shortly after, but often just stopped coming as they lingered.  A number of them gave her pieces of jewelry and other things they valued, telling her.... I meant this for my family, but you seem to be the only family I have.  Please take it, it's OK I want you to have it.

You must never overbear a patient's will or take advantage of them in any way, and she never did.

NYS governor prince andrew has been on the news constantly and even touted as Americas governor.

President Trump had the Navy hospital ship come to NY. So our governor in his infinite wisdom had those with the virus go to a nursing home. The nursing home death rate skyrocketed. I think this about to come back to bite him.

  I cant wait to see what is said about Gov. Como and his great Idea of
sending the seniors back to the senior centers after they contracted the virus.
  KNowing that the centers were not prepared to take care of them.
He was able to send them to the navy ship Comfort, to Samaritans Purse
set  up in Central park and the Javitz center all of which were able to take care of them.
  That glory hound sure looks to me to have a bit of blood on his hands with
this decision

Cuomo is a moron that certainly has alot of explaining to do, but I doubt the press will ever pursue him....he's the Dems golden idol as future President.....Meanwhile,  dont forget most seniors are Republican voters!
