I heard of a situation, I forget where, it may have been here in N.J., parents were picking up lunches and selling them. Crazy stuff.

My mom works for the school system and helped hand out lunches. Everyone who showed up got how many ever they asked for. Now the kids that are on free lunch get reimbursed fot it? That is 319 bucks per child.

Buying votes. Bottom line. I know I will catch flack for this statement but here goes. Not all situations are the same. I understand that. But folks that cant feed their kids need to be sterilized. I understand people fall on hard times and fine help those people but too many people are on assistance that are able bodied. I remember back in school that the kids that got free lunches (not all but alot ) were the kids that always had a bit of money in their pockets to buy an extra lunch or be the first one at the store next to the school to buy cokes and candy after school.

I just wrote the governor to let him know my disgust with this. Asked him if i would be reimbursed my hourly rate at work since i had to take time off to care for my kids. Fair is only fair. Also let him know i would be voting against him.

While living in northern NY, counties in neighboring Vermont had free lunch programs for poorer students. But, to avoid any visual inequity, ALL school families were mandated to receive free food as well, even if they didn’t need or want the support. Just keep spending and raising taxes. Sigh.

So poor kids that can't afford school lunch, get a free school lunch. OK
So the schools are closed, and the kids don't go to school, so they get paid money to make up for the free lunches they didn't get? That is the very essence of entitlement.
And I see this is being paid in arrears, so do we assume these kids have been starved to death for two months, so now they can afford to sit down and eat two months of lunches all at once to get better?
I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way.

Absolutely ridiculous. And what is worse is i know some doctors and people that own multiple businesses that will get this too. The school goes off of only 1 income. So if the wife does not work they use that and the kids get free lunch.

My Mom packed my lunchbox everyday, not always the good stuff or what others had for lunch but she always packed our lunch. When folks couldn't afford to feed their family, they stopped having more kids.

I was scamming free lunches in Middle School (we called it Junior High back then) and given free lunches in High School.
Mom would give me a buck every morning before school. I believe a hot school lunch was 59 cents. The kids who received free or reduced lunch got a card they had to carry that had a 4 digit number. When they got to the register, they showed the lady the card and she crossed the number off of her list. EVERY DAY, I would tell her I forgot or lost my card and just spit out the first number I read up side down from her list that wasn't crossed off yet.
In High School, as we walked into the cafeteria, one of the teachers, Mr. Ouzile (social studies and drivers ed) would start yapping "Who needs tickets, who needs tickets?" He was mimicking ticket scalpers of the day outside Madison Square Garden. He got a big kick out of himself. And he just handed out little yellow tickets to EVERYBODY. We'd eat then cut out through the basement and head out down the block to the deli and bagel store.
Wherever there is a system, there's someone either scamming it or exploiting it. And any system run by government is much more expensive than it has to be.
