I seldom make the bed anymore. (After all, that's women's work  Evil ) But today, I did. Just like riding a bike. Although I got half way done, and wondered why. Nobody is going to inspect it. Hell, I doubt Brenda even knows what a military folded bed would look like. So.....I've got one side that looks pretty good, and one side just tucked in. I wonder how long this stuff sticks with you ?

I’d say about 52-1/2, at least....

I try to make mine every day.  Not the minute I get up.

It won't bounce any quarters or anything, but I like to get the fitted sheet tight so I don't get wrinkles caught in my hiney later on.

AC on for the first time today (since fall), and uh oh, I think my coolant is down a few quarts.  Crap!

If it's not one thing, it's another.

Hopefully it's not the R-22.  Smiley

Well I just read a little on that.  Crap.

My system was a 1985 install (purchased by me in 1992). And I've had coolant added 3-4 times over the years.

Ours got a pinhole leak in it a few years back while we were gone on vacation. It was going to cost us a fortune for the R-22. Luckily the A/C was a customer of my wife's and he had an old unit with refrigerant that he swapped out for us cheap. I don't know if there is even any available at this point. The real pisser is you can't just swap out to the new stuff. You've got to get a whole new system.  tickedoff But, if yours goes back to '85 you are probably due.   Embarrassed

I've replaced R22 with R410. Now I guess R421 and R422 is used although I've not used it.

Some military habits NEVER go away - I still get a military style haircut, and I do my clocks around me in 24 hour time when they can. Also almost always have my gigline setup when dressed , usually with undershirt on (unless all I'm wearing topside is a T-shirt). I will never be able to break the habit of waking up early (or sleeping more than 4-5 hours straight unless I'm under the influence of some drug ). I wake up in the middle of the night , ready to goto war (i.e. full alert). I'm sure I have a few others...

I whole heartedly agree!   The only thing that hasn't stuck is I can't pass the Marine Corps PT test.   I used to max them out every month.   That 3 mile run I used to do in boots and trousers in 18 minutes is now accomplished in tennis shoes in less than 3 minutes at the speed limit with the A/C on.  Pull Ups, not even a consideration.

Gig line-Check. Hat/Cap squared-check. Dress Boots and Riding Boots shined-check. Soon as any shoe laces show fraying they Are Replaced-check. Warmed up enough to shave the gourd and always shave the neck area under my beard to pass a Military exam look see-check. Far as the bed fixin go I duz in Fact fail But I do change them for clean and fresh weekly. Sides the way I crap out when I sleep I SLEEP. THAT there sleepin thang IS U S Navy training. Found out I could sleep between two rather Largish 9 cylinder radial engine while flying out to station and then again on the way back and awaken before trapping on the carrier and snug the straps so as to stay hooked to the A/C.  Roll Eyes Crapped out on a steel deck more than once or twice. And I separated from active duty in Feb of 1968. Ah the good ole days!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

I cut my own hair boot camp style, because I cannot cut it longer evenly (though that would only be a quarter inch).  But only every six weeks or so (more often in hot weather).

I shave most days, but have chin hair.

All my leather shoes and boots are shined.

If I dress up, I have a gig line (but I don't dress up).  My style of dress in public is chosen to be completely nondescript, plain, and unremarkable, though clean.  I always wear boonie hats outdoors (skin cancer).

What gives me away as former military is my attitude, not my appearance (except the haircut and hat). That, and I often call people decades younger than me sir or ma'am.  Old people too.

Young men like to be called sir, but young women often don't like ma'am at all.  That's amusing.

I was at one of my wife’s service award dinners last year and a guy at the bar kept staring at my dress shoes...he was a West Point graduate (I was a five year military school grad) and so was his wife sitting next to him.  He came up to me and commented on my spit shined dress shoes...I still have my shoe shine kit and brass cleaner uniform protector.  I always spit polish and dress the edges before putting the shoes away in felt sleeves.

Some habits are hard to break...

Agreed.

If one pays close attention, one can usually discern the difference in which service the individual served in also.   I'll leave that to the reader's individual interpretation.  Not trying to start any inter-service rivalry.  Wink

For sure. I can ALWAYS pick out NAvy and Marines. Army - I can tell they were prior service, but I don't know the tattletales of which service (same for the Air Force).

Looks like I have just lingering symptoms compared to some. I do always use a military style belt. I do always line up the gig line if wearing a buttoned shirt. I have a military haircut only because I'm bald. I can't tell the difference in 60 year old men who served in the Army or Navy. (Jarheads can be spotted a mile away though)  Wink

Mom always said to make your bed. ( I posted this earlier). She would say "I know you will be coming home".
I got drafted and the morning I left , Mom asked if I made my bed. "Yes mom , I made my bed".
Then I know you will be coming home.  I did ,I came home ,  a little over three years later. I enlisted after I was in so I could get a school.
As far as the gig line goes , yes , even wearing grubby clothes  , gig line is straight. Shoes are so-so. I was in an Airborne basic and now I am not into spit shine .
