Anyone have a solution to making your seat cooler? My problem is this, I live in a hot climate and I end up with sweaty butt after riding for a while. The rest of me can be fine but my butt gets hot.

Is there any way to cool the seat?

BTW I was playing around with my Air Wings and these things do work for sending the radiator heat away from me. I'm surprised by that.  I figured out how to set them so my wind shield works well as opposed to my head bouncing around. I like to not ride with a windshield or anything but these Air Wings are useful.

Couple things from my experience.

Hi tech, microfiber, nylon, stretchy-snug underbritches (and I tried a number of them) all make my ass sweat far worse than cotton.  These hi tech drawers may transfer heat standing, walking or running, but not glued to a hot vinyl seat.

In hot weather especially, I wear loose jeans that when I go up on the hwy pegs, the legs fill with air like two sausages, and that air helps out your bottom.  I wear jeans for protection.  But when I tried lighter weight pants (for heat) the hems on the pants would not stay open like jeans, so the pants wouldn't fill with air.  And the jeans are better at keeping engine heat off your legs than lightweight pants.  And I tried mesh pants and they are nearly all (heat sucking) black, and those let the engine heat kill you (even if you cut the full liner out of them) unless on the freeway or at least 50mph.

I've used an Airhawk cushion (air inflatable) and that gets you off the vinyl seat and lets air flow under you.  It also raises you in the seat a little.  You only inflate them half or less for best function.

Polymer seat cushions do not retain heat, but anything with gel in it retains boucoups heat.

I've seen guys tie the wooden bead seat covers over their seat, and that may work too.  Dunno.

In hot weather, I will occasionally stand on my floorboards for a minute or two (or longer) to blow the hot air and sweat off me and out of my clothes.  Straight and level at reasonable speeds is ideal.  At 5'9", I can stand and lock my knees out and hold the bars like normal and even shift and brake.  But if anything hairy is coming, it's best to sit back down.

https://airhawk.net/

https://www.beadrider.com/

I've also shaken baby power down my underbritches before a ride.  I never got ass cancer from it.

I had a Diamond Custom Seat made for two of my Valks. Oldest one has 160,000 miles on the seat. I got the velour seat material rather than vinyl or leather. No more sweat.

BeadRider seats.  Get the Ultimate ceramic beads, they are not painted and will remain black.  It allows a pocket of air underneath you butt.  Really makes a huge difference in fighting the swamp ass.  Also if you get rained on keeps your butt drier.  My wife won't hardly ride in the humid summers without hers on her seat.  I also like the fact that you can kinda slide around on the beads keeping the blood flowing.  Like a little butt rub going down the road.  As far as looks?  Go to their website and check them out.   They will leave little dimples on your vinyl seat, but I have found after removing beads they go away, seat returns to normal.

I carry one of those half-covers, silver colored, and stretch it over the seats when I have to park in the sun. It barely reaches from the rear seat to just over half of the tank, so is small when rolled up to fit in the saddle bags.

Sheepskin is the way to go, works great when it is cold (warms your butt) as also when it is too hot (helps to transfer heat and sweat out).

Alaskan leather had nice ones (https://alaskaleather.com/collections/sheepskin-buttpads) and there was a discount code (deadsheep) that I used when ordered one a few years ago.

These covers are not intended to be used while riding, but make a good rain cover when the bike is parked.  Keeps the seat cool when not in use.  I am thinking of getting one for the wife's Burgman (which I ride just about every day).

Even better than my half cover; can probably keep it in a jacket pocket.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm not talking about the seat getting warm when parked, it's when I actually am riding it. Most of you know what I'm talking about. Happens in hot weather and the wind will cool me off but not my butt pressed against vinyl. I've tried shooting air up my pant legs but it doesn't make it far enough. Sometimes I stand up on the bike to try and cool off but that doesn't seem to do much.

BTW where I am is hitting 90 with 70% humidity lately, summer is here. The spring had sweet weather for riding a nice touch was a lack of vehicles on the road the last month or so.

I was told sheep skin for a nice overall ride. My problem was the time sitting, just not used to it. The sheep skin made it nicer, but still after 3 hrs my butt hurt, which made the cost of $100 at a "sheep store" hurt too.

Today I can get a simple sheep cover for $20 that would have done a better job.

I don't suffer from heat, just not enough riding. When I ride more, no more problem. But the AirHawk is very nice for cushioning. Less air is better, letting you move around.

In you case, you could move it forward, then having the back half off the cover. Then reserve it, move it back and have the front loose.

I had gotten a set of Sux (?) underwear. I then found I could do the same by getting a size smaller. So I wear large, but on the bike medium, cotton. Feel more comfortable.

Undie's make all the difference for HA treatment. Duluth Trading Co. is another alternative. I have no ass but I wear Crazy Boxers to avoid ass heat complications. Also have a Cool Ass which works VERY well indeed.

I recently bought a pair of Moto Skiveez underwear. They’re padded in the pressure points, supposed to help for those long days in the saddle. Haven’t been able to try them on a long ride yet thanks to the Covid. The reviews I’ve read seem to be pretty positive.

Seriously? While everything was closed down the bikes were out in force here. Gas stations were still open but no where really to go, didn't stop anyone.

I’m not talking about an evening or a day ride. Been doing those. I’m talking about across the continent ride where your ass starts to burn, which we can’t do yet.

I have bought a couple of pairs of boxers briefs from Duluth Trading Co to try out. One of my friends who works outside all the time said they were great underwear. Not cheap though. Jury is out on those.

As far as the seat bead thing, do you slide around on one of those? I just picture that either being uncomfortable, like sitting on pebbles or me sliding all over the place on it?

Anyone have a good source for sheep skin seats at a low price? Don't know if I want to spend a hundred to find out if it works or not.

Found mine on Craigslist, I know that is zero help to you, but I would put the sheepskin on when it started to get hot in Phoenix and remove it in the fall. So, the ONLY reason I used it was to keep my ass from igniting. We know all about heat in Phoenix. So, my point is that if you invest in a quality sheepskin for your ride, you will not regret it. You should be able to find several sources on line.

All ready have after market seats and I don't want to spend that much. If I was starting with stock seats I might be interested. My seats are comfortable, just hot during the hot months.

After eight years, the Alaska sheepskin seat cover still looks new.  Makes the seat cool when you need it, and warm when you need warm.  The natural brown is attractive on a black bike.

https://alaskaleather.com/collections/sheepskin-buttpads

Everytime I come here, y'all cost me $$!

Just got off the phone with Barb at Alaska Leather, and she is making one in natural sheared for my Ultimate King driver seat...also sent her the dimensions, and she's making one to cover my Utopia backrest.
Under $200 for both, shipped.

Regardless, my rump will thank you for foiling my procrastination!

How long till the sheep skin shows up? I would kind of like your feed back on if they worked out.

I'm in no rush. No planned parts or gear buying this year. Maybe this will be my Valkyrie present this year, I would kind of like to get through this year buying nothing but gas. I guess one cover won't blow the budget.....

You can buy a car seat cover from Costco and cut 1 if not 2 from it. ~$60 That's for 1 seat cover with 3/8" foam backing. Don't know if that's good or bad.

Not certain how long, but after a phone call, she sent pix of 5-6 natural sheared hides to choose from....all real pretty....I finally picked one.

Barb texted me later that evening to apologize; that she intended to make both pieces in time to mail them out, the day I ordered them!
And also to tell me instead of making the cover for my backrest, she had worked it so one hide made both front and pillion covers!

First thing yesterday morning : Priority tracking number.
THAT is rapid service.

Hoping it's here for our planned Tuesday ride, but seriously expect it may be later, since our mail is delivered bi-weekly, by a Druid priest riding a burro.

Will letcha know!

I used to ride an eighties Yam Venture all over Arizona in the middle of 110+ summers.  I was missing some plastics and the radiator blew right on me all day.  I bought a ten dollar beaded seat cover from walmart, (autozone has them too) and cut the back part out for my venture and the smaller butt part for my k75.  They lasted years until I sold them with the bikes.  They worked great and kept me cool by getting some good airflow in there.  No need to tie them down or anything either, they'll stay under you.  Another thing I did for the real hot weather was put a switch in to activate the radiator fan, I'd turn it on whenever I got to stoplights or anything to keep the engine from heating up quite as much.  Made for a much cooler ride.

Had time to glance in the package....looks superb.

Gotta text from Barb @ Alaska Leathers; she's expecting several more skins in 2 weeks. Will be doing a complete set for Brer Bill's Wing Trike then. And my Utopia cover.

Spare time & new seat cover pix soon,I hope.
