Been thinking about a fun vehicle to use with the twin grandsons and I have always been attracted to dune buggies. Any of you have one?

For a more all weather ride this would fill the bill nicely,

Looks really cool, but wouldn't the placement of that air intake suck in all the things?!?!

That looks more like a scary fast street rod. Pretty sure that lighting up the tires would be no problem even at part throttle.

And Meyers Manx is still around to supply a shell for that rusty beetle barn find.

I love the looks that is really cool but I would have to take a look at the chassis and see what he did. If they used the bug chassis the flex would be unreal and Im not sure if there is a way to reinforce it to make it not flex.

Kind of reminds me of some of the slot cars I used to make.  cooldude

I’m pretty sure the VW is a VW in body only. I only posted it because it was an enclosed vehicle and pretty narley looking. One of my subdivision neighbors has a more conventional dune buggy and about the only time I see it out is when he is riding his kids around. Not too many for sale around me and the few that are happen to be rail buggys.

My only comment would be that I have never seen a "Dune Buggy" with more than two seats.
They are probably out there but, I've never seen one.

I'm thinking you're gonna need multiple seats to take those boys out.

You can buy or build a 4 seat rail chassis. I've had a few 2 seaters and 4 seaters. All of them were a blast.

I like the Manx and sand rails.

But I think the better ride is the Type 181/182 or VW Thing.

I do not believe I have ever ridden in any of the three.

A "Thing" is just a Beetle / Super Beetle with the squared off body.

Yea you can find 4 seater buggys. My search so far has turned up really nice looking machines that are big $$$ or examples that are really just projects that eat time and money. Of course I’m looking for a unicorn, something reliable, complete and budget friendly. 20 years ago a project would be in my wheelhouse, not so much anymore.
