is coming down,  thoughts, comments?

https://news.yahoo.com/richmond-taking-down-confederate-statues-213613599.html

Maybe it belongs in a museum instead?   Roll Eyes

the article says 770 Confederate monuments still stand like this.  I wonder if they all will be removed from public view?

A part of history can not be removed. It will be forgotten by the future generations tho. The civil war happened , but will they continue to teach it in school.  The covid crisis is happening , but will it go by the wayside.
I judge friends by a simple "will you watch my back in combat". "You do not have to fight , just warn me if needed".
There are not many in the younger generation that I will trust.

And now the statue of a Texas Ranger at Love Field Airport here in Dallas has been removed for racism issues.....

I cannot even begin to explain the anger levels I'm at right now.

This is so stupid.  If they think that by removing the statues that it will make a bit of difference, they are mistaken.  History is history and they cannot forget the past.  Leave the statues as they are.

just like the Indian mascots in our small school sytems such as 'Chiefs'  'Warriors'  "Indians'   and where I went even 'Blue Devils'  are being asked to re-think and change their mascot symbols.  Even in 1987,  the last year playing high school football,  our football helmets use to have a cool evil looking 'blue devil' which changed my senior year removing them all and putting   ' EA' on them representing our co-op schools combining into 1 team.   I thought that was dumb since we  use to get a blue devil sticker for doing good things to put on our helmet which I think was cool looking.    Some of us had dozens of blue devil stickers all over our helmets.

I’m a little confused. Do you feel we should honor these kinds of actions ?

*Read a little more into the situation other than the posted fox news article shared by Serk*

Integration created many explosive situations throughout the
United States in 1956. Mansfield, Texas, was no exception.
Feeling ran high throughout the community. In an effort to
defuse the ticking time bomb, Governor Allen Shivers ordered the
Rangers onto the town’s school campus. Sergeant Banks and his
fellow Rangers kept things quite and peaceful. The Rangers let it
be known to all involved that they were not on anyone’s side:
their only job was to keep the peace. And keep the peace they
did, all without having to use any excessive force. With their
evenhanded display of impartiality, Jay and the Rangers gained
not only the respect of the locals, but also the public gratitude of
state and federal authorities.

Instead of looking at situations from the aspects of our culture today.... Look through it in the eyes of those from yesterday.

If you dig deep enough into anyone's past you'll find something "deplorable".

Maybe we shouldn't honor anyone from history.

Made mention of this before but the small town I'm originally from-Round Lake Il.-had a large bill board Memorial with the Name of Every U S Military Service Member who had died in a war going back before WWI as I recall. The Man who became a Marine-Vincent "tiny" Meltzer-I believe was amongst the last of those names on that board. Black stenciled letters on a white backround. That board is gone-has been for some time-and now they have some sort of rinky dink fountain and all that's on it is-to all who served. My question is-Who will remember Vince once my Brother and I are gone? And observing this crop of younglings lately I figure not too many actually care. These Statue removals bother me by their very removal. It IS Virtually IMPOSSIBLE to make everyone in this Country happy. We need to DEMAND that the Senate expunge all records of any mention of Sen Robert Byrd.  He was a major recruiter for the KKK.  And was unrepentant for most of his life.

I am with you on this,  cannot please everyone so just leave it alone and look the other way if do not like it.   Is a part of history whether good or bad and will be forgetten anyways in the younger generation for sure.

I think when the BRAVES baseball team was doing that tomahawk chop was a pretty neat idea until someone thought it was putting a smudge on the Indian culture.  People need to suck it up and move on and get over it.

I just got done watching probably the LAST (never say never though) RAMBO LAST BLOOD movie and we may have to be digging tunnels and boobie trapping our property for when they come for us,  we MUST be prepared.    I thought the last RAMBO movie prior to this one was a bit more far fetched though, but being RAMBO,  he can do it all.

Not so sure I am such a great shot though with a bow and arrow.   Sad

RAMBO does NOT miss.

Another thought on this disturbing trend. I Wonder what the actual tally is for Keeping a Civil War Memorial versus those that actually want it removed. I Personally would  like to see the figures if possible and they weren't skewed in either direction. They-whoever They ARE-have already had success removing Christian Memorials and Bible Verse out of Court Houses. And I will attempt to leave it here-fer now. RIDE SAFE.

wish I had one of these going for 1500 bucks?

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/487725834614981284/

instead we get a black man with dreadlocks riding a horse with Nike shoes on?

https://www.npr.org/2019/12/10/786740652/new-statue-unveiled-in-response-to-richmonds-confederate-monuments

why?  am I missing the reasoning?  they say:  The museum wrote that the new sculpture "commemorates African American youth lost to the social and political battles being waged throughout our nation.

Pretty sure the way the NFL is going,  Kaepernicky will get a huge contract with an NFL team to make his comeback get his millions and retire age 40 living the American DREAM.

I always remember Greg whom I use to work with 3 prior jobs ago I always asked him how it is going he said 'living the dream, living the dream'  was his constant answer.  He had 2 young/infant kids, wife stay at home mom no job he said she liked to spend HIS money,  and worked 2 full time jobs near daily one starting 15 miles one way from his house at around 5-6 a.m. then coming 15 miles the other way from his home in next town around 4 p.m. to the other 2nd shift job where I was at working near 6 to 7 hour days there as well.  Gotta admit,  making around 22 bucks per hour 1 job and 2nd shift job around 18 per hour darn good money but working near 15-16 hour days daily then sleeping tops 7 hours for me would get too much even if I was his age around 30 or so.   Previous job I had was 11-12 hour days daily for 1 year and had enough even with the overtime money weekly.  Wouldn't it be nice to retire age 40, make your cool millions in the NFL in your 20s and 30s and retire?

exactly my point.  do you want to look at a statue of a person in dreadlocks on a horse?  why?

piss off one group of people, then piss off another is all it is.

I really love all those NFL players on TV saying 'black lives matter'.   should be saying 'all lives matter' if want to be equals....

The pendulum swings both ways

Sometimes people forget that.  Usually the ones who do not study history or feel they are
superior to others.

Reb those were some wise words for a whippersnapper  !

Ever hear of White Russians?  You could never meet one. They were pro Tsar, and killed by the communists. Stalin finished them off.   I do not mourn them, they continued pograms against my ancestors in Russia and Poland as well as other atrocities.  An example of those who thought they were
"better" like the Reich (which ironically is a place you can find Antifa's beginnings like Soros)

Our best defense is the document that gave us a country, The Constitition.

Speak up in your town, not just on this board

We do not have to agree, it is good we don't all agree but we must be able to express differences without a message that one race matters more than another, or that police are evil

We have met the enemy and he is us    we just dont see it nor that we ALL are also the solution

even me and my daughter age 21 got into it yesterday although inviting us up to visit with her and her boyfriend in their rental house did not get into a heated pissing match over it.  Her boyfriend who is pretty quiet does not say much is a HUGE sports fanatic knows a lot more than anyone should about NFL players and other sporting events people, even knowing where they went to college and stats in a fantasy football league, etc.    My daughter, and myself included,  think he is way way too obsessed with it and needs to get another hobby, but that is another story.

Anyways,  we chatted about Kaepernick kneeing during the Anthem and I said he may have a right to but is still a disgrace to the US and the Anthem song, etc.  much like Drew Brees said of the Saints and yes, he may have meant to protest police violence and injustive to blacks, but still was not right IMO.  Well,  my daughter said 'it is just a song' meaning about the National Anthem.  That sort of pissed me off.   tickedoff

So yes,  this  younger generation, my kids somewhat included,  think they are priviledged or for lack of a better way of saying it not knowing the history of the US and what our forefathers had to endure to get to them where they are now 'near' spoiled rotten.     Cry

Then, went out to see her bicycle with the bent front rim and yet another example of this younger generation not giving a rats whoo hah about other people's property am sure 1 or 3 college kids near campus in her apt. at the time thought it funny to bend an unknown person's front rim.    Never heard back some 30 to 40 years ago of anyone messing with anyone else's property unless he/she had a beef against someone for some specific reason.
