Just heard that sweet, pretty Shannon Bream say that there's a motion before the courts to give the folks on the electoral college the freedom to vote as they choose, and not as the electorate tells them to.

So, what do you need the electorate, citizens, for?  If the electoral college doesn't have to abide by what the citizens hand them, 120 million or so people can stay in bed, go to work without rushing around, billions saved in campaign advertising and billions more in the cost of running the election.

Well, at least minorities can relax.  Now they don't have to go through the turmoil of acquiring identification.

When did it all get so backwards?

Each state can set their own rules on this is my recollection

I also recall that in some states the 1st ballot the electors MUST vote a certain way but on subsequent ballots can vote as they see fit

Otherwise how can a compromise candidate get thru the convention if there is no agreement

Capice.  Hiyever, the tactics they use are so blatantly undemocratic and hypocritical.  Remember the last time the electoral college failed them?  They wanted to get rid of it altogether and let the popular vote in NY and CA pick every president.  They yelled "One Person, One Vote".  Now they don't even care about that one person.

BTW, how does one become a member with a seat on the electoral college (or whatever membership in that club is called)?

As I understand it...

Each State are granted the number of Electors which equals their legislative representation. How the States choose these Electors is up to the respective State. Technically. The reality is that the dominate Political Parties choose the electors for their candidate at their convention. Every State is represented at the respective conventions. This creates a "slate" of electors for each State which is then registered in the respective State to be added to the ballot and those elector slates are what is voted on.

Federally and Constitutionally, there is no provision to "require" an elector to vote in a specific manner. Constitutionally an elector can vote for Santa Claus I suppose.

But, in agreeing to become an elector and represent him or her self on the State's ballot with the intent and promise to vote for the specific candidate, to ultimately vote otherwise could, and should, be considered an act of fraud against the people of the State in question. A kind of a burn at the stake moment for the accused elector.

Interview with Minneapolis City Council Presdient went like this:

“Do you understand that the word ‘dismantle’ or ‘police-free’ make some people nervous?” Camerota asked. “For instance, what if in the middle of the night, my home is broken into? Who do I call?”

Bender answered, “Yes, I mean, I hear that loud and clear from a lot of my neighbors, and I know, and myself too, and I know that that comes from a place of privilege because for those of us for whom the system is working, I think we need to step back and imagine what it would feel like to already live in that reality where calling the police may mean more harm is done.”

Calling the police is a privilege.  And we all know that means White Privilege, therefore must be wrong and taken away.

When did it all get so backwards?

Wow they need to be white and call the police, I don't know about any of you but I have never called the police and not had some reservation. I don't know it may be me.  Grin

To me its just another sick person imagining, some white privilege he is denied. Coming from someone without the common sense to understand. Its something he so badly wants and imagined  that somehow it was different for whites, in his made up world.  A good reality slam to him would sure be nice and he may get it if they remove the Police presence.

I've never called the police, unless I felt I had to.  Mostly to protect others, not me.

I called animal control more than the police.

However, I make it a point to never call the police and have them arrive to find me armed with a firearm.  This can cause more confusion and excitement and yelling than necessary, and you can get shot. So don't do it.

White privilege my ass.

It's a large and important part of what what we pay taxes for.  And those that don't pay any (or much) taxes probably call them and require their services way more than most regualar taxpayers do.

Anyone talking about defunding their police departments, should just go out and shoot their own foot.  And then walk to the hospital.  Except it's unlikely any of them actually own any firearms.  So they should make do with an ax or a hammer.

I would think they should aim about 5' 7" higher. But that is just me.

This is called The National Popular Vote and has been in the works for quite some time now.

https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/

There are some who question the legality of this movement but it’s gaining traction. According to the above website they only need a few more states totaling another 74 electoral votes.

If you look up National Popular Vote there are quite a few websites (some from very good background) that go into detail of how this can become a real thing.

NYC loses sanitation for a week due to a strike or something and becomes a complete shithole.  Imagine no police?

I know, relax it'll all be fine.  My 5'2" unarmed Social Worker of a daughter will get the call to go to a home where a 6'6" mentally handicapped man who hasn't taken his meds is busting up the house with his bare hands.

Heaven, or Trump, please save us from those who wish to bring us down to the poverty level of the third world.

There are so many whackadoddles flapping the gums on radio and social media I can't remember who said "Why should an armed man respond to a mental health call". I think it was a council member from Minneapolis.

I'll just move to Canada.  When all the crazies that left because of Trump come back there should be plenty of room for me.
