I noticed my turn signal  assembly was very loose the other day. The 2 nuts on the inside of the fender are tight. Is there supposed to be a rubber grommet or something for the metal tab that goes through the fender? If so, mines gone. Any help appreciated!

Which model? The standard and tourer have different assemblies. Or, do you mean the turn signal/license plate holder?

Sorry, forgot. '98 Standard. It's the turn signals not the taillight. Embarrassed  I went back and edited it. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yes, it's not so much a grommet by itself but part of a rubber backing that goes behind the lights unit.

It doesn't show up well in the parts diagram, but #18 here: https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/1998/gl1500ct-a-valkyrie-tourer/taillight

The "metal tab" goes through the square cutout in the rubber gasket (red x, inset photo).

Then both of the above goes through the square opening in the rear fender. The rubber material serves as a grommet.

Years ago, I over-tightened one of the fender bolts and broke it. I took the whole thing off and rigged a bolt in there. Knowing me,  Undecided  I probably didn't get that tab in the rubber correctly. I'll take it back off and check it. Thanks for the help guys!
