BigBF will probably be getting up this way after Inzane.

You can PM him or find him on facebook

Where in Connecticut?   We have a New England board  just check under chapter boards

They do not seem to ever come onto the general board with posts

Backfiring when decel is usually a hole in a vacuum line.  Check all of those first.  Next would be the orings on the intakes and the clamps from the air box may need to be tightenend.

Thanks Thunderbolt ....... the backfire is on the right bank only and only at low RPM deceleration (under 3000 RPM)  ..... it came on suddenly .... bike has run great with no issues for 20 years and only has 40k miles. It still runs strong on acceleration and operation on the gas at any RPM. The bike has been garaged kept and very well taken care of with regular standard maintenance. It was desmogged and had the exhaust cansiters modified over 10 years ago but has always run great. The only recent work done was an oil and filter change a month ago. So far I have done the following to try and address the backfiring with no improvement:
1) Tightened up all 16 clamps
2) Changed plugs
3) Synced the carbs
4) Emptied the fuel tank and then ran through 3 full tanks of gas with Sea Foam added
4) Replaced all 5 nipple plugs with new ones
5) Inspected the vacuum hose on #6 which looks fine
6) Inspected the air box and cleaned the K&N air filter
7) Tightened the bolts on all chrome intakes
I did not check the orings on the intakes as there is no residue of any type around where the intakes meet the head ......... but I guess it wont hurt to check ...... but any other ideas would be greatly appreciated ....... I have about exhausted my skill set for diagnosis

Dan-Bury is in  Danbury   good people

DalaiLama (Brett) is about a half hour or so north of him  also good people

Brett is on the right, next to him is Dan  I am in the light colored jacket behind the  Valk emblem

This was the Thor Mug handoff between the NE and NY chapter years ago

We used to meet some sunday mornings at Marcus Dairy in Danbury which is a bit under an hour from me here in Ossining  During the winter once a month a breakfast rotates around new england

I tend to ride to the winter breakfasts on the Valk as I like cold weather riding more than riding in the summer heat unless it is snowing or ice on the ground

Put your finger by the hoses on the petcock and feel for moisture.  You may have a pinhole leak in the diaphragm  of the oem petcock.  Also there is a trick where you spray something on the intakes and listen for a change in sound.  Someone else will remind us what is is (wd40?)

There is one more small piece of vacuum line on the carbs that has something to do with the cut valves I think they are called.  If those haven't been replaced I would do that, they are just an inch or so long.  I was surprised when I replaced a set years ago at the cracks in the ends when flexed.

Great picture OSS ..... we all miss Marcus Dairy and the ride in that were a staple there for years. Thanks for the technical suggestions ........ regarding the pet rooster, if it was an issue I would think it would effect all cylinders no? ....... my issue is clearly only on the right side

Check all the vacuum connections at the rear of the intake tubes.
They tend to get dried out and crack and easy to replace. Also the connection
where the air box comes down.

You might like to add your Location to your profile, so it's there to be seen, and others can offer local help.

Check out BigBF, he would be your man of choice. He travels the country to work on different Valks, try's to get groups in each location stop. Does great work and sells some products of his own.
