Well it looks like Mike picked up more than just chiggers in NC. Mid week they found a tick clung to his ear , it was a tiny one. At that point his thoughts were he could not put his helmet on........He started daily visits for antibiotics infusion however he was not getting better and he was admitted this morning. Many tests including the vid (negative results) and now the testing is Lyme and Rocky Mtn spotted fever. Yes 2020 gets worse!   Keep our big boy in your thoughts and prayers, high fever and sweats, very tired.

Mike & Liz so sorry to hear this. Good thoughts and prayers coming your way.
My sister contracted Lyme's disease from a tick in the same area last summer, changed her life fast and hard. It's manageable and curable, she's a Doctor & chose the holistic approach after returning home from hospitalization. I'd be happy to share some of her thoughts if your interested.
Get well brother Wink

Been dealing with Lyme for the last 4-5 years. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Since they caught it soon after the bite, he's got a great chance of full recovery. The longer the bacteria is in your system before treatment, the more damage it does. I truly wish him the best.

Holy cow! Really hate to hear that about one of our most important members and one of my favorite Florida riders! My thoughts & prayers will most certainly be offered up in his behalf!!! Although she probably won't need it, I'll also ask for strength and ease of mind for Liz, as well... They're both pretty strong and tough cookies.

Thanks to everyone for your concerns, slight improvement today's the ear swelling is going down some, hard to beleive what a little bug can do to a big guy.  Hopefully we get some results back soon and I'm released, I get better rest at home. Thank you all again.

Sorry to hear this Mike, hope you get well soon.  Don't worry, your old interstate is doing fine and wouldn't trade it for anything out there!

Undecided Bummer Mike, I sure hate to hear the news of that tiny tick. I'll have you on my prayer list for sure.
angel I was just up that way the week before you in the woods hiking some myself. I did have long pants on but checked myself over at the end of the day. I heard they were present in my area of NC, Highlands & Glenville area. Prayers for your recovery and improving health Mike. I'm betting you'll get the best of this and with Tundra's comments I'd bet you'll be reaching out with him. God Bless   coolsmiley

I’m new to this board and am sorry to hear this. I had a friend with similar symptoms a few years ago in CT. It turned out to be Babesia, which is tick borne. He also had some Lyme which he didn’t know about.
He fully recovered btw, but had a rough go of it.

Hey Mike I just saw this. I'll be praying for a quick and full recovery.
We did a few short walks in the woods up there the week after you were there and were concerned about those little blighters too.
Hope you are sprung from confinement tomorrow.

I'm home, I will go back twice a day for 7 more days of IV infusion, 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. , June 6th being the last day. I'm already tired of this stuff but must continue with the antibiotics. Still don't have a definitive answer on which tic borne illness I have. Infectious disease guy says Ehrliciosis fits my symptoms best, mostly now i have migraines and weakness, the ear/head swelling is down, the flu like symptoms are gone. I've been poked so many times I am hating needles now, apparently I am a hard case to get a needle in, some nurses tried 5 or 6 times and call somebody else in, thick skin and deep tough veins makes for this poke fest.
Hard to say if the tic came from NC or Fl., it wasn't on me long as we caught it before it was swollen or bloody, it was 5 days after getting back from vacation. That was a Wednesday, on the following Saturday's ride my helmet was hurting my ear still and Sunday the ear looked like a UFC fighters, then started the evening chills and fever after work. I started taking amoxycillon Sunday night but it didn't touch it so by thursday i was in the ER. Left there with once a day infusions but at my Saturday morning infusion it was clear i was only getting worse so I was admitted. 3 days later I feel like it's going in the right direction now. I'll post back when they give me a final diagnosis. Again I appreciate all your thoughts and prayers they really do help.

sending you & Liz BIG hugs and lots of prayers.   Kiss   smitten
Drinking a bottle of water 15 mins before getting a shot helps pump up the veins.
take care and hopefully you find out the answer soon.

Thanks all, nice to see you post James. Doing much better everyday, my boss had me take the whole week off so other than twice daily visits for infusions I have been getting some good rest and need it, I just hope when I go back to work Monday I don't need 2 naps to get through the day.. Grin. Will continue until Monday eve with the antibiotics. I thought we would have heard a final diagnosis by now as they said we would but they are never on time. Feel good enough to get an early ride or two in this weekend, hope you all do to.  cooldude

Test results came back negative for any tic borne diseases ! Maybe we caught it soon enough that it didn't take effect. Some say these tests are not always accurate, I will follow up in a few weeks and have another test done. Feeling good now though, back working in this sauna. Thanks to all for your concern.   cooldude
