I have a standard with aftermarket hard bags. I saw an ad for a Tourer that has chrome crash bars (horizontal) under the bags. Are these OEM or aftermarket?
Thanks

A Tourer would have the OEM guard with them, under the bags, rigid plastic.

Then there are the aftermarket side guards.

Lastly would be soft bags, which means the bike is not a Tourer, but they called it one.

It's like my local Honda dealer selling a Honda Shadow ACE Tourer. I called them out on it. It had soft bags on a ACE mc. The ACE T is a different model and configuration.

No. Not rails.....bars/guards. Small chrome horizontal guards directly under the rear part of the factory bags. Looks like a loop under maybe the rear 1/3 of the bag.  Subtle. I don’t know how to post a picture. They look like they may stick out far enough to save the bag in a tip over. I can’t tell on other pictures if they’re oem or after market. Do Tourers have any kind of bag protection?

These are made by Tsukayu for their own bags (which their Strongs and Jumbo Strongs have been put on Valk standards), not OE Valk bags, though it's possible they might fit (though the leading edge of the Strongs is much more angled back than OE bags).

But I wouldn't do it, one good bump and you crack the OE ABS bags at the mounts.  It is not real protection, just mostly bling.

Yeah I’m just looking to protect my aftermarket bags. Not wanting to go with full bag rails unless I have to. It appears no other options available. Thanks all.

#34 & 40.  If this is what you're asking about, those are the OEM under bag guards that are part of the bag mounting system.

They came on all Tourers and Interstates.

They will hold the bike upright in a low or no speed fall, as well as protect the bag.

Yes Yes Yes. That’s what I’m asking about. The question is will they protect my bags. I guess for $400 I’ll find out.  Or find a Tourer and take some measurements. Thanks!

There's a button for currency choice below the price. $87,50 + $22,50 Shipping to US.

They are looking similar to the ones on my Phat Lady:

They won't protect the bags. They're support brackets which provide points to bolt the saddlebags to the bike and also a heat shield against the muffler. They're standard issue with any Valk with oem saddlebags (if these are the bags guards you were referring to).

I don’t know how to post a picture.

You can simplify things by posting a pic. The easiest way to post a pic is by finding the url (address) of the pic.

Right-click on any pic, then select "copy image address" from the pop-up menu (B).

In the post editor page, click the "insert image" button (A). Then paste the pic's address (from above) between the html tags (B). walaa.

Mike, can you do me a favor? Measure the distance these guards stick out from the mounting points.
I would appreciate it.

+1

They will not protect the bags in a side crash if they get hit, nothing will, even the bag guards. Too flimsy. Now against a drop, a door, something minor, then yes, the add on bag guards may have a chance to protect them.

Daveman, these only fit soft leather bags. NOT the hard bags. My personal experience

The first question is if the OE bag mounts (with forward bottom guard) will fit underneath your aftermarket bags OK.  Those OE mounts bolt up to the existing Valk hard-points and are not adjustable. (And adding them requires longer bolts than some already on there, to accommodate the extra depth of adding the mounts.)  We have no idea how big your aftermarket bags are, or how they are mounted, or whether their mount may be adjustable to fit in tandem with adding the OE bag mounts underneath.

If they will, then those OE bag mounts (with forward bottom guard) will absolutely protect your bags in any drop or tip over, and even a fall and slide (at reasonable speed).  The OE Valk front engine and rear bag guards work together to stop the bike from going over more than 40-50 degrees, so long as you don't go all the way over, or tumble or bounce the bike or hit something while sliding.

I once rode out in a dealer parking lot with a brand new front tire covered with release agent and ran down to the end and flopped the handlebars to turn sharply, and my interstate went right over and slid about 15+ feet on the guards, and it never touched my bags (or the fairing either).  (I forgot about the slippery tire, tapping my brakes to set the new brake pads.)   It did scrape some chrome off the bottom of the guards (front and rear), which happens (though you have to lay down to see it).

I looked for a picture of a tourer or interstate laying over on it's guards, but couldn't find one.

It's similar the this Hog.

Or this Victory.

The oem guard did protect my saddlebags when I dropped the bike. At least, the bags didn't have any scratches. However, I don't know how much the *oem rails* played a role. Whenever I remove the oem rails and reinstall them, it's a little wrestling match to align the bolt holes since the fall reshaped the oem rails.

It would have been nice if that loop on the guards (rectangle, below) protruded a little further out, and was reinforced more sturdier (bottom pic).
