I'm in the process of changing the gaskets on the carburetors, is gasket adhesive required for the new gaskets?

No, the only gasket that should be adhered is the bowel gasket. that being said I have done my earlier rebuilds without it and they didn't leak. After getting great advice from Attic Rat I started using a very small thin line on the bowel side only using a curved syringe.

I didn’t replace my O rings and used Permatex non hardening gasket maker for petroleum distillates.

When we sent a set of carbs to the dealer to get rebuilt I had to check. We knew some of vent passages were clogged. So upon receiving the carbs back I popped one bowl off go see if the passage was open. It was. There was no adhesive gluing that bowl on. It popped right off clean as a whistle and went back on dry and didn’t leak.

I have had the bowls off about 20 times due to re-jetting/tuning, still with original gaskets, zero leakage, never removed the gaskets from the bowl.

With o-ring style gaskets, you should not need any adhesive. I have never used it and never had any leaks. I have used a slight bit of grease to hold them in place while putting them together with never a problem. Unless the gaskets get hard or break, they should last for many years of pulling apart and back together.
