Been reading through the previous posts and I'm just as confused as when I started.

I'd like to have highway pegs that are extended from the engine guard, down the valve covers about half way or maybe a little more.  Other option is to have some that attach on the horizontal arm of the engine guards.

Problem is:  micrometer says engine guards are 1 1/8" and the horizontal bar is 1".  All the ones I can find that extend as I want are 1 1/4".  What are you guys doing, or where are you getting pegs that fit?

Looking at Kury's and Mick's (?) & they are WAY too much for me right now.  Alternatives?  Do the 1 1/4" products on ebay actually fit?

Thanks

Most ready made kits of hwy peg parts are for Harley with 1 1/4" guards (will not work on Valk, unless you wrap the guard with heavy rubber, which is unsat).  You need 1 1/8" clamps (Kuryakyn Quick Clamps).  Years ago, I had to buy my own parts from Kuryakyn, and put them together myself to mount to bike.  They may now sell kits with 1 1/8" clamps .  Kits always give you a bit of break on price from buying all parts separately.

The cheapest hwy peg is a 1 1/8" quick clamps to clevis to pegs right to the outer sweep of the engine guards at 3 and 9 oclock.  Do not buy the large ISO pegs, get the small ISO pegs or Duallys with male mounts.  You really do not need offsets (unless very tall), most guys just fold them back on themselves anyway, and all they do is move the peg position farther out (wider).  Just beware that they are outboard of everything on the bike, and if not folded up, can snap off on the garage or shed door frame if you're not careful (or even in a simple tip over even if folded up).  I have this setup on one Valk, and I have to be careful my short legs do not rest my calves on the rear corners of the valve covers, which get hot after riding awhile.  Also, they must be mounted to the guards angled back, not out at 90 degrees; they look crooked, but your legs are like this V, not this H.

These are what I'm talking about, though they only come with 1 1/4" clamps.  https://www.westendmotorsports.com/kuryakyn-iso-highway-pegs-small-large-dually-or-wing-clamps-for-1-25-bars-4-peg-choices-8032-8033-7992-4451/

Here they are with 1 1/4" or 1" clamps, but no 1 1/8".

Almost no one ever orders from Kuryakyn themselves as they always charge full MSRP, and all of their thousands of vendors are cheaper (Amazon may be your best bet for price).  But, if you can't find a 1 1/8" premade kit for sale, you might call them direct and ask them to sell you a kit with the right clamps for a kit price.  Or just order the 1) pegs, 2) clevis, and Quick clamps.

But the Kuryakyn 4050 kits are the best there is.  The clamps mount below on the guard support bar and are so strong you can stand on them (superior to quick clamps).  And they fold up so if the bike goes over in a fall or slide, they don't get hit by the ground like pegs mounted on the outer sweep of the engine guards.  Only thing is for interstate, it's best to cut the scoops off (you don't need them for anything) to get them mounted where they belong.  Not an issue for std and tourer.

Jess' advice is good, and I know you have to do what you have to do, but having been a poor starving Valkyrie owner I will give one piece of advice - Buy quality, cry once.

I know.... I really know...... But I've now got Mick-O and Kurakyn's on both of my Valks.... I've got ebay "Just as good at" stacked up in junk drawers, which is where they belong......

The lower horizontal bar is 1”. If you mount on the curved part, you need 1 1/8”.

Serk, how do you like the Mick-O-Pegs? Thinking about ordering a set.

not Serk but for any kind of distance at all I am using them
It is the same relief your lower back gets when you sit on a tall barstool
So comfortable on a long ride (and also the RussellDayLong)

Do Not Stand on them they are only held in place by allen set screws

I was standing on them while passing a truck on a downhill right grade on the highway so I could try to see around the truck what was ahead, while coming back from Valk ride in Kentucky, when the left  peg snapped. I almost went down.  How I recovered from that I have no idea.

Mick sold me a replacement piece that was stronger. He warned me do not do that again as they are to support your legs not your 230lb whole body weight

I usually dont......

If I had to choose just one it would likely be the Mick-O's..... I prefer having the most options as to where to place my legs and feet, and the Kurakyns give me more options (I put put my feet on them or put my legs above them and rest my ankle on the pegs) but the "Ahhhhhhhh" of having your legs dangle (Or semi-dangle for us taller guys) just can't be beat.....

Just don't stand in 'em... But that really goes for any highway peg setup, they're mostly designed to rest your legs, not to hold your whole body weight.

I've heard the praises of MikOpegs for years, and I have never tried them.

But I do not want my hwy (or any other pegs) moving around on me... at all.

I use my legs/feet as part of body-English riding.

I love the MikO's on my IS, they provide a full stretch that really helps with numb butt and blood flow.  They are so comfortable they can lull the rider into forgetting they're in use.  After a yet undetermined curve arc and degree of lean, they have  built-in reminders!

Just a personal observation.   Embarrassed

I like the design of the Micks. Also when I am riding it seems natural to want to have my legs stretch / hang down. Sometimes I will stretch them out and lay them on top of the engine guards. Not a fan of that so not likely to go with that design. Looked at the Micko website this morning. That$ a big hit for that comfort! Gonna have to think about that.
