« on: July 20, 2020, 06:32:07 AM »

Latter this week I am going to be riding from Austin to Tampa. I don't want to Superslab it the whole way. I-10 to I-75. I want to break this up into 3 days. Its about 1130 miles. With out going way out of the way I'm looking at I-10 to 27 in Fl then US 19 south. Any suggestions??

Look at US98 along the Gulf Coast.

I've ridden it from Pensacola to Chiefland.

It's nice to ride along the coast.

If you have time ride over to Cedar Key.

Absolutely ride 98!
Then ride 19 down to Tampa. Good roads.
Cedar Key is a great place for lunch.
Great places to eat all along the Panhandle area.
Check in with the Florida group in here for more info.

I'm thinking of taking I-10 east out of Austin to US98 just outside of Mobile, Al all the way to Fl then US19 south. I have never been on 98 or been to the panhandle of Florida. Its about 600 mile on I-10 and 520 on 98 & 19. I'll be leaving Austin Thursday morning.  cooldude

Morning, I believe that will be a good ride once you hit Hwy98 in Mobile to Pensacola.  smitten I live right outside Pensacola and have take Hwy 98/27/19 many times to Tampa over the years but I try to avoid the summer ride on 98 east, especially with the beach traffic for 130 miles east of Pensacola. This time of year even w/ COVID19 can be pretty bad especally on a MC. I'd get back on I-10 in Pensacola go east to the Ponce de Leon exit, aprox80-85 miles. Head south SR181, nice road for about 20 miles to Hwy 20. Turn left East on 20, take across to Hwy231 then South to 98 again. It will be on the east side of Panama City and no beach traffic. Not too bad from there, you'll see where Hurricane Michael ripped up the area  along 98East for many miles. 98East from Mexico Beach is known as the "Forgotten Hway". Nice ride though seeing the beach water many times and pleasent small fishing towns. I recommend hitting some of the local restaurants if you like or can eat fried fish, Great food for sure! smitten Take 98 to Perry and jump on 19 to Tampa.  Wink That'd be how I'd do it. Let us know how your trip went. Be safe  coolsmiley

Looks like I would get back on 98 just east of Destin. From 293 / Mid Bay Bride rd.
or do I stay east on 20 to the 231 and get back on 98 just east of Santa Rosa Beach?

Beware of US 19 South of Citrus County.   Follow. 98\19,   but stay on 98 to US 41,.  Take 41 into Tampa.  Much safer!!!!

Yes, stay on 20 east to 231. Right turn on 231 headed south to Hwy98. Left on 98 east. That is where the fun begins.  Cool

Undecided  Well bummer the rain was just so bad here in the pan-handle Shocked I believe you made the right choice to just get by our area as fast as possible. Thanks for the call and I know you're glad you got as far as you did. You will enjoy the Hwy98 ride from east PC over to Perry. Can't wait to see your new bike, maybe you will get by the Saint Marks Lighthouse and get a great picture! Safe travels.  coolsmiley
