It seems there are many in life. My latest one of 7 weeks has been the best. Maybe things will change, but I'm loving this retired stuff. I have been knocking delayed projects off right and left. I have much left, but it feels good to get some of them done. I even cleaned and organized the garage. The 118* heat has curtailed a lot of the outside work, and I have done little riding in it either. I used to pride myself on riding nearly every day regardless of the heat. Not so much anymore.
One of the phases I've noticed of late is my sleep cycle. For decades I got up for work anywhere from 1am-4am. Here lately I've been getting up at 7 or 8. Granted I'm staying up till midnight or so, but it seems strange to get up so late.
Another phase I've noticed is having to reassert my dominance of the household. My wife occasionally thinks the home is her domain. I've needed to show her the errors of her ways a few times. It's good to be King.
Another phase that's reared its ugly head is poundage. I've gotten in a routine of 2 milkshakes each night while watching TV. I'm going to have to buy some clothes if this keeps up. Or, I might just walk around in my underwear, I haven't decided.

Ten years ago when I retired, I jumped in like a maniac on my never ending list of projects.

It was great to make such good progress, but over time, I slowed way down.  After all, the last thing you want to do is run out of things to do.  Like that can ever happen.

I retired and fired my wife the same week.  I didn't really plan it that way, but that's how it worked out.  It was probably the best week I ever had.   Grin

If you ever decide to teach a seminar on 'reasserting dominance of the household' I'll be one of first in line.
I've been officially retired for 15 years and that hasn't worked yet.

The garage looks great (even without a before picture).

My only observation is that I hope that shelf with all the paint cans over the blue and white's gas tank is completely reliable.

And it would look much better with the tool chest lid closed.   Roll Eyes

I thought those were the before pics. Where are the after shots?

If you’re the king, it’s only because Brenda lets you.

One way or another, I’ll see you in Prescott.

hope its all you ever wanted.
I tried it for 3 years. Got every project done I thought I would not get done and some major ones too, then I gained weight and laid around the house till my wife (who is still working) told me I was turning into a slug.

I went back to work and am not even looking at retiring till 70   Shocked

You worked long and hard enjoy the life.

As for the house and domain issues...lol...it’s good to be the king but the queen holds the key to the kingdom. The little projects are all yours, remember happy wife, happy life.

I can relate who waking up at 7 or 8, it feels like the morning is shot by the time coffee, news and a bite to eat and I’m usually up by 5:45-6:15.

Eight years retired . . . the garage and grounds (2.5 acres) are my domain. With the covid crap go'n on, the garage is clean the sheds are sorted, the grounds are groomed . . . even fixed the legs of a step-stool that had been bent for 40 years - now good as new. Been pick'n litter for over two miles along the road in my neighborhood for many years. Was a monthly deal, now once a week. I scrape the proverbial barrel for things to do to keep me busy for a few hours. Every day is a new day for things to do. Your garage looks good! Look'n forward to life sans the CovidCrap so we can venture away from home for a few miles. Cool

Rob, I'm pretty sure this will only happen in your 1-4am wake up time frame. You know, when Brenda is sleeping, you get to be King.

You know, for several years, my life at work sucked, and my life at home sucked and I was a pretty unhappy person.  That week really reached the Mount Olympus of suck.  It took a while before I realized it was the best week I ever had.  At the time, I felt like I'd been stuck in the spin cycle of a washer for a month.  It's funny now.   cooldude

I have an Ex-Wife too.

I know exactly how you feel.

Like they say, divorce is expensive because it's worth it.

It cost me $10,000 to get rid of my first wife.

I would've paid more.  Grin

now now,  cut those 2 to ONLY 1 milkshake,  why the need for 2?

I cannot say much though bought some snickers dark chocolate ice cream bars.  Had one a few hours ago and then just finished 3 small scoops of ice cream hear at 930 p.m. at night.

ONLY time I ever got up before 4 a.m. was NEVER...

I use to work 2nd shift 3 -11 or midnight usually for near 12 years.  Home around midnight, watched TV until 2 a.m. went to bed got up between 10 and 11.  I liked it since still had time from say noon to 2 to get stuff done around the house.  Am not a morning person never have been.  Now,  day job I get up 6 to 630 a.m. and still go to bed 11-12 p.m. am sure I need more sleep in my life for on weekends I have been known to doze off for 2-3 hours to catch up on the missed sleep I suppose Monday thru Friday?  Maybe as I age is me being lazier though or just getting more tired as I age?

Wife nags me near daily, I need to get dressed quit walking around in my underwear around the house during the day with the front shades open.   Shocked

gee,  I guess I am starting 15 years too early before being retired.  Going to hate to see me then if I am doing all this stuff now?

I did great for 6 months after I retired then ran out of projects. None of my buddies had time to hang out, couldn't ride in the winter.  Went and got a part time job as a custodian at a Rest Area just to have something to do.  Haven't mopped floors since I was a teen.  Couldn't stand the thought of watching any more TV.

When I retired 11 years ago, I was showing up for work at 6.   It took several months for me to stop waking up so early, but was able to push thru it.  Actually got to see some TV shows that I didn't know existed, some were actually good, most were not.

Since I retired, the house is the DW's, garage is mostly mine.   I do help out around the house, wife cooks, I clean up her mess.  good arrangement as I don't like to cook.  I take care of vehicles and yard (mowing, shoveling snow, etc) she keeps the house clean.   So if one actually works out what jobs need to be done and who should do them, all will work out in retirement.

AND no, haven't got all the projects done that were on the list, but then the list keeps growing.
