Cutting to the chase my left hip IS loaded with arthritis. They already have me on Naproxen Tab twice a day with food. They are talking injection or injections-do NOT know yet what or how much. Any other of us old guys been there done that and what was/is yer take. NOT lookin fer miracle cures or "stuff" years out-talkin Here and NOW. Yes-my LEFT hip the one being bothered-ya know-the one those of us on 2 wheels more frequently use when stopped on a Phatt Ghurl! I got a LOT of GOOD advice here when They-V A-thought I might need a hip replacement. Now I'm turnin to y'all again for those that have similar problems. Ain't fer sure and fer certain but thinkin my warranty might be a bit past what the manufacturer had in mind! RIDE SAFE.

Yeah Dennis, Arthur and I are on a first name basis as well. I got a few shots in the right hip with little to no good results. The best was about 7-10 days relief and it came back big time. I finally went to a different hip surgeon who took a bunch more pics than the previous drs., the result were views the others never showed. That final dr. showed me the left hip and the good line of cartilage, looked great. Then the next pic he pointed out a line for the rt. hip that he defined as the NY City skyline...."that's all arthur and you'll notice there's no cartilage left. I was told no more shots, lets throw a new ball joint suspension in there and be done with it. He used the anterior method which left me with a 4" scar in front, no walker, no crutches, limited use of a cane for about 10 days. Took 1/2 tab of some pain meds the first 2-3 nights and Tylenol from then on for another couple weeks. Problem is, I think the left hip is jealous cuz it's creating problems now. Can't imagine how bad it's going to be when I get old.

Arthur is a friend of mine too - Left Index finger, end joint - Always red and inflamed and it makes playing the string bass more difficult and more painful than it should be. More than anything else - this will probably end my bass days and I'll have to move over to cello in my community orchestra - which won't be as rough on that joint, but will still put some stress on it. At least I don't have anything else complaining yet...
I take 2 Naproxams every morning for back and general body pain (i.e. - I don't move very well without it). All other over-the-counter pain relief doesn't work very well on me, but on orchestra nights, I take Tylenol just so I can fall asleep ( taking my low dose asprin and you're not supposed to take other NSAIDS with the low dose.)

Prior to having my hip replaced they gave me those shots.
Like John said, they wear off quickly. From what I understand, the shots are a guide to let them know how bad the bones are. Mine pain was back in less than 2 days. Dr. told me that when that happens, they know that surgery is the next step.
It may be another hurtle they have to go through to satisfy the insurance company?

looks like hip surgery will be needed sooner rather than later. good luck.
I know when my dad fell down breaking his hip age 67ish, I was super worried he would never recover. Much to my surprise he felt great (or as good as he could be with his 3 spinal cord prior surgeries 10+ years prior) when they told him age 55 at the time of the spinal surgeries he had a spinal cord of a 90 year old man. I guess then he lived to be almost age 100 vs. only 76? Cannot imagine having no feelings in hands or legs for 20+ years being clumsy all the time as well, really frustrating for him forcing his early retirement as well age 55 only. It was funny at the beginning Drs. said go to chiropractor for an opinion and a few looked at the xrays and NO ONE would touch him way too risky.
I knew his health was really failing soon after the hip replacement when he lost all desire to drink his normal 4+ beers per day and a few shots of brandy, soon after loosing near all his weight and hardly any gut the last 5 years or so.

I've been getting those shots in my neck and back and they're helping me.
I've had them in my shoulder as well with good results.
If it were me I'd at least try them.
They hurt like hell but they're worth it.

Anyone ever tried marijuana ? Supposedly it helps.
I've never used it. Ever. I've recently tried CBD for close to a year, it did nothing. I've been looking into becoming a stoner. Been reading quite a bit, so, I'm wondering if it works.

My 90yo mom has been using some legal MI CBD oil (brother got it for her), and she says it helps.
I don't think smoking weed reduces physical pain. It just makes you think about other things, or not care.

Thinking about other things and not caring just might help.
The CBD didn't help with a darn thing, it just made the wallet lighter. Drs don't want me taking aspirin, ibuprofen etc for the headaches. [ but I do at times] The other aches/pains I can live with.
