I'm sure they'll close all the bars down and place a curfew on the town.  Lghts out at 8:00 pm -- no wild parties or live music at the Buffalo Chip.  No doing the horizontal bop.

Yeah, right.

No worries it's just a small flu.   uglystupid2

On a side note since this is as much about COVID as it is Sturgis, why hasn’t the homeless population been decimated by this pandemic? If it has, why haven’t we heard about it?

The ridiculous mandates and the willingness of the fine Americans to blindly follow them never ceases to amaze me.  On Gig's Yooper ride we had a group of around 24 people we needed to get lunch for.  Gig and I rode ahead to the restaurant to "warn" them that we had a large group coming so as not to overwhelm their staff.  Gig and I entered and complied with their "Must wear a mask to enter" notice taped to the door.  Once inside their sign said seat yourself, so we found 2 tables set to seat 8 and one table set to seat 6.  So we sat down to hold them and told the waitress we had a party of about 20 or 24 coming shortly, she said ok.  Then another lady wearing a face shield came over and said they could not serve us, the governor said no parties over 8 persons.  I said ok, we no longer had a party of 24, we had 3 parties of 8.  She gave me the stinkeye and said I'll have to check on it.  They did end up serving us but the whole thing was ridicules.  Our governor is an idiot.

i love the area but you can't pay me to be there during the rally. Did it 5 times and got tired of it. Way more enjoyable to ride that area without that many bikes. One year I went there were 500k bikes. Took 40 min just to get across a town that usually takes 5 min.
Just not my cup of tea.

We spent a night in Sturgis last year during the rally.

It was an experience to say the least.

I don't see me planning a trip out there just to go to the rally, but if I'm ever in the neighborhood again I'll certainly stop by.

I never had any desire to go, but several years ago a friend invited me to ride up and stay at his vacation house near Deadwood.  I rode into Sturgis for the day, then at night we borrowed the neighbor's SUV to drive back in to have a few beers at One-Eyed Jack's.  His wife agreed to be the designated driver -- can't beat that!

I must admit it's by far the biggest party I ever attended, and I had a better time than I expected.  The roads in the Hills are great, though better when less crowded.  Many of the bikes are incredible; it's like a continuous bike show.  And the vendors throughout town have stuff you won't see anywhere else.  I wonder, do the young ladies washing bikes wear masks to match their bikinis this year?

I never got to the Chip, but understand it's quite crazy.  I work with an attractive lady who goes there to tend bar during the rally.  She makes several thousand in tips during the week!

I have stayed at the chip 3 times and Glencoe once. Glencoe is more wild than the chip and I have no desire to go back to either one.

Great!  I can ride up to Sturgis and not worry at all.  No need to take any precautions since if I'm gonnna get it, I'll get it.  Maybe I'll leave my helmet and jacket home too, cause if I'm gonna wreck, I'll wreck.

BTW, I do plan to ride to Sturgis this weekend.  But I sure won't be going into any bars or other crowded places.

I have several friends currently at this rally.   They keep sending me pics trying to entice me to share in their fun and games.   Most pics are of customized V twins and T&A pics of ladies, I simply have no desire to be around an estimated 250 K people in close quarters, Pandemic or not.

I rode to the Black Hills for a few days.  I stayed out of Sturgis, but the crowds on the roads and other towns didn't look very different from previous years.  It wouldn't surprise me if the 250K estimate is low.

On the way up I stayed in Gillette, Wyoming for a night.  It's 110 miles west of Sturgis, but was full of bikes.  The hotel clerk said plenty of riders stayed there and ran into Sturgis for the day.  Hotels closer to Sturgis cost hundreds more, and with 80 MPH speed limits on I-90, 110 miles is no big deal.

Well, most of the T&A pics are not "family friendly" and I really try to stay with the rules of the road.
