Bigbf thinks around 2 weeks he will be back my direction so knowing what he will be facing I decided to remove some stuff not germane to his tasks.

Windshield off and hanging on the wall. I believe it’s toast, been on the bike since 1999 and just too hazy to be enjoyed.

Bags emptied out and removed, no big deal except I do have leds replacing the reflectors on the sides and really had to fight to get the wiring unplugged.

Bag rails and mounts haven’t been off in about 12 years and I was a little concerned as I tried to remove the bolts, they were resistant but none broke. I had done the nut cage mod with my first rear tire change to a Fat Freddie and I used a locking nut on that bolt and it was the last to come off. Had to put a wrench on it from the back side as it was spinning with the bolt, once I got the right size wrench no problem.

Decided to pull the back portion of the rear fender off too. I’m thinking I may go back with a car tire. Got to do a complete rear end service. Driveshaft has never been pulled so keeping my fingers crossed.

I was surprised that the throttle cable is froze up. I gave it a twist, or tried to anyway, and the small amount it moved did not snap back. My battery was toast some years back so that’s on the list.

Even the chrome on my Cobra radiator covers look terrible.

I have promised myself that I’ll sell her before letting it get in this condition again. It looks like it has been setting outside or something but the only time it was not garaged was when traveling, mostly to Bike Week.

Well, ya gotta start somewhere.   I have no doubt it'll be running fine before Big BF leaves.  As to how it'll look, Bubba, that's all on you.   Wink

You can get a lot of cleaning done in 2 weeks. I'd get some tires ordered. I look forward to some ride reports.  cooldude

I got in on that Cobra chrome deal some months back so the front is covered. May get a car tire ordered this week.

Carbs, driveline rearend service, maybe rear wheel bearing, repair or replace throttle cable, hopefully that covers most everything.

Might as well have him check the condition of the brake system components. I would expect corrosion in them from sitting that long. Obviously a fluid change as well.

Probably will do that. To the best of my memory I replaced the pads and fluid and put new seals in the caliper pistons within a thousand or so miles but the time factor may indicate a fluid flush and bleed.

Hmmm.....  I recommend having Big BF do a complete look and see.   At “our” age can one trust their memory.
