Talking with a friend found out Honda isn shipping no more Goldwings for some time.
Seems until they are ready to release the new 2021 model there will be no more.
That makes sense to all of us because of the way they treated our beloved
Valkyrie. There are so many sitting in crates at dealers.
Was at a dealer here in Maryland and seems he had 2 2018s sitting
In the crate and one from each 2019 and 2020.
Looks like if timed right there could be deals had.

Shortleg, I have been doing some Wing looking.  There are not many new ones available in North and South Carolina.  It is not like dozens of them got swept up by bargain hunters - the dealers never ordered many at the start of the year.  Months ago there was a 2018 brown base model in Rockingham at a good price.  Now the ones left anywhere around are the Touring model, automatic transmission and mostly candy red.  Not my style.

Honda dealers here are selling a lot more off-road products than road bikes.  That's the new trend.  My local Honda dealer in Sanford, NC has only about a third of the new bikes and 4 wheelers they had last year.  The little showroom is by appointment only these days.

Bargains on Indian?  2018 Indian Chief with 4800 miles was top dollar.  But... They  offered a generous two grand to trade in a 2003 Valkyrie that looks like new.  Bottom dollar.  There is a Chief Vintage in Greensboro at a good price.  Pretty, but too many pounds and too few horses.

So I have looked.   Sad And continue mto enjoy my 2003. Smiley. And maybe a trip to Maryland.

Good deals in Wisconsin on new Goldwing's
This spring you could still buy new 2016-17 Wings for about $18,000
I have bought most of my new bikes as leftovers at great savings back in 1983 I got 1982 CX500 for about half price $1450 and so on PC800, 98 Valkyrie, 13 F6B, 15 Valkyrie.

I would guess that the ones left will be snapped up unlike our leftover 1500s back in the day, the wing is sought after by the Harley folk in record number.  Yes this is true, just visit a 2018+ wing forum.

There were some great deals on the left overs last winter and into the spring.  A quick search showed most have been sold in a 250 mile radius from me, but there are still a few at 5 k and better off sticker.  I did not realize a lot of Harley folks had bought the new wings.  I guess  a test ride on the DCT and 6 speeds that Honda was pushing sold them on what a great bike it is.   I also know a lot of Harley guys have switched to the the Indian Chieftains, Springfields, and Roadmasters, and Chiefs.  I think the newer Chiefs switched to the highly acclaimed Springfield platform.  Also Indian Sales, due to a large degree, of the new Challenger earlier in the year had shot up 33 percent.  Now new Indian patents have emerged of the Power Plus water cooled engine in a more Victory Cross Country like platform.

Of course these large, high priced bikes as a  whole  ( Harley is taking a beating right now ) sales are way down from prior 2010 and the reason are many and we all know why.

Alpha, the leftovers around here,  in a 250 mile radius, have been mostly Candy Ardent Red.  That color was right for 1970 on a CB350, but it evidently is not the color of choice for today's big bikes.  There was a really good price on a 2018 6 speed in Myrtle Beach, but I can't go for the color.

Regardless of price, you can't get a good deal on something you don't like.

It would seem you are right Pluggy.  Most of the 2018 left overs were the candy ardent red in my radius.   I am a fan of red  ( heck I even special ordered two Chevy Express Cargo vans years ago just to get the Victory Red )  and if buying a wing that would be the one I would buy.  I saw one at our local dealer in Troy, OH when they first arrived.  I see they still have 4 this color.  I guess people in the Greater Dayton area do not like the red also, however this Honda Dealer does not deal much, unlike other shops such as Honda East in Toledo.

If you like bright red, that wing provides plenty.  Too much for me, Alpha.  But... Down in Myrtle Beach there is one just waiting for you.

The Honda dealer I frequent-Mega Motorsports West Plains Mo.-hasn't had new G/W floor models in awhile. They do however have a goodly sized stock of used H/Ds on the floor that might make ya step back outside and look at the signage.  Roll Eyes They also carry a Lot of those 4 wheel farm and ranch utility vehicles. The last 2 Valkyries they had went to auction. BUT still a decent source for new Valkyrie parts-those that are still made anywho. RIDE SAFE.

When I bought my 2018 Wing, color did not matter to me --- Unlike me to be this way, now when wanting a 1500 Valk color is everything. I actually did not care to the point I asked Sherry to be involved for choice on the wing.  The Facebook 2018+ wing groups are full of HD riders to the point I feel like an outsider being so many years with flat 6 variations.

Maybe they took off their blinders and actually rode one. Or maybe they were plodding up a long steep hill on their HD and a fully loaded 2-up Wing blew past him/her like they were standing still and thought...hmmm.

I test rode everything with an open mind with the exception of a 1600 BMW...ruled it out because of maintenance difficulty/cost and the dealer being too far away...and nothing came close to the Wing.

Oh, I have no doubt ! Every Harley rider I ever knew only considered Harley's. Maybe the newer guys are changing.

Maybe the older HD guys spent $35000 on their HD, then another $15,000 to get it up to 100 hp and they feel committed to it now. The younger ones maybe have a bit more of an open mind and/or haven’t spent all that money on HD clothes that they feel they can still go to something else without losing their shirt.

Younger ones?  Harley Davidson is having a really hard time marketing to younger ones.  Their numbers are not many.

Lol. By younger...I meant below 50. I was a late 30’s with a Harley, liked it but hadn’t spent a fortune on it and had no emotional connection to it and hadn’t gone crazy with the “Harley lifestyle”. Those are the ones I guess I’m talking about.

I get that the new Goldwings are a lot of bike and incredible machines, but the thought of paying $18k for a motorcycle is giving me a case of the vapors over here...

Isn’t that like me saying...I’ve got a couple .22’s, a couple big game rifles and a few shotguns, so buying any more would be just unnecessary.  I can do everything I NEED with just these without spending any more money.  Grin

(This is a joke for my friend Serk who I’m pretty sure has spent more on guns than I did on my Wing. I am in no way suggesting one can ever have enough guns)

I bought my 2016 wing in 2017 (new) for under $17k. Haven’t regretted it once. Still ride my Valk but when traveling with the wife we take the wing most times.

keep those near new but used revamped wings going down and down to that 10-12K mark and might consider one eventually.  Much like fishing boats,  ATV's, and cycles,  I would never buy one new ever when so many low usage, low mileage ones at 1/2 the cost of new are out there.  My fishing boat cost 7K back in 1997.  The same fishing boat today with same motor, etc. is 13K.  My ATV cost 5.5K used some 8 years ago,  new even back then was over 10K and now 12K today. All my cycles similar stories 1/2 the cost of new or more like 1/4th the cost of a new one.

Not sure what my kids used 1982 honda cm450c cost new way back then, guessing near 2.5-3K if had to guess since I know my brother bought his new 1985 suzuki gs550l for 3300 in 1985.  It cost him 600 bucks and so far he is loving it drove it 100 miles yesterday he said no show winner but he says it runs well and gets 65 mpg.  Pretty sure he wants me to sell his low mileage fjr1300 in that $4300-4500 range but told him to hold off another 1 month or so to make sure that old honda is do-able and enjoyable for him.    So far he is loving running thru the gears with around 10K rpm redline says will keep right up with my Valk?    That is one thing he disliked about his newer, much faster, fjr1300.  You cannot wind out the gears on it too fast only need 3 gears to go 80 mph right?   Plus, the honda 450 is comfier long distance than that fjr1300.

Them Honda 400/450 twins really are more capable than we "big bike" riders give them credit for. Sure, they don't have the HP and torque, but they are much easier to deal with on campus. Cookie, your son may want to ride the 450 this year, but if he wants something bigger next year - have him take a look at the 750 - 1000 CC bikes for his upgrade.

And when I bought my CB400A NEW in 1978 (decked out with saddlebags and a clear windshield) , I think I paid on the order of $2000 - $2500.

I hope not. I paid $1998 for my '77 Yamaha 750 triple. (No bags or shield though)

Back to the topic:

Has anyone had a ride on the 7 speed automatic Goldwing?  They call it DCT for Dual Clutch Transmission.  The motorcycle reviews I have read liked it.  Of course, motorcycle reviews tend to be generally favorable.

Your experience?
I haven't. But the 3 people I know with one love them.

Sir... Doesn't the DCT Wing have a reverse feature?  On rural trips, we can encounter a lot of gravel.  Particularly if you like barbecue.  We try to park so we don't need to back the bikes up, but sometimes we have to and your feet can't get much traction.  No fun.  That 7 speed bike costs more, but reverse might be worth it.

Mine is DCT. The shifting is fantastic and definitely well done from Honda. I struggled for a bit when we first got to Nantahala NC on a trip in the tight turns until I decided to start using the paddles and do my own thing in manual. Then it was ear to ear grin from a, did I buy the wrong bike frown.  Here in flat Florida just put it in tourer mode and go.  Now having said that I could only imagine the 6 speed manual model must be nice as well.   I wish the 1800 valk had 6 speed manual.  ⚠️ warning: Not much storage.  Warning #2 remember use the parking brake on hills.

I'm pretty sure both manual and DCT models have the reverse.

The 6 spd manual is a fantastic smooth shifting transmission. The extra gear over the Valkyrie is very appreciated.  I don’t regret choosing the manual. From what I’ve read, 99% of DCT owners also love them after getting used to them, and it takes less time than one would think. The DCT makes the oil changes slightly more complicated, but still easy enough.

I think all manual transmission Touring models (trunk from factory) come with reverse. I got the base model and added the trunk and centre stand (liked the colour of the base and didn’t want, or want to pay for all the extra stuff the Tourer comes with). The Canadian base model comes with reverse, I don’t think the American one does.

I’ve only used reverse a couple time in 2.5 years. But was glad to have it when I did.  Anyone who is used to a big bike like the Valkyrie and knows to plan their parking accordingly doesn’t really need it.
