I read that some California utilities are implementing rolling blackouts to deal with power shortages during their current heat wave. This should get interesting in the future, as California forces millions of motorists to switch from gasoline to electric powered vehicles. Not only that, but some local CA governments are banning natural gas furnaces, water heaters, ranges, and dryers.
How can California add an enormous electrical load to their system without a similar increase in generating capacity? The state won't allow any new nuclear or natural gas power plants, and wants the existing ones shut down. You'd think these blackouts might be a wake up call to the residents that still have some common sense.

There is no explaining what goes on in California. The problem is, Californians are invading the sane states. Keep California in California.

It is not just the folks running California in this instance but the voters themselves. The state of California has for many years now disallowed powerplants in California to grow by number or size to meet the electricity demands of the population. They are buying the needed electricity from out of state, east.
Traveling west toward California it is interesting to see the string of power producing plants. They are also buying from the midwest power grid further away.
They may be reaching the top of the availability.
