I have an opening here I have to fill, and even though the ad I placed was very specific as to what skills I REQUIRE, I still have to sort through piles of unrelated resumes.

I finally saw one that caught my eye... pretty good skills... not to bad on experience... but what is this?... "searching for full time employment (thanks to Bush)"

What a stupid thing to put on your resume.
The real funny part is...
I remember this dumbass comment from the LAST job opening I had a few months ago!
It cost him an interview then too.

maybe you should call him in for an interview, let him get his hopes up, just to tell him you found someone more qualified!

that really use to get me pissed!

politics aside, that individual definitely has "questionable" judgment.  It's nice of him to advertise it so freely and helps you avoid future problems.

Good luck on your job seeking..

I believe welfare recipients need to submit so many resumes a week to keep suckling at the teat... This might be his way to get his quota of resume submissions without risking actually *GASP* landing a job...

My sympathies to both of you for the ignorance you have both displayed with your remarks.   Wow.  I'm not sure you are really qualified to dig through heaps of resumes and ascertain whether or not they are qualified?  Did you give any thought to inserting the Career Builder link to the job advertisement which lists the company name?  Great PR - should make a company proud that you are promoting them along with your uneducated remarks tied to it (the company).

Did it ever occur to you that one of those persons who submitted a resume might actually suit you fine and work their ass off for your company?  I assure you that not all unemployed persons who are using the benefits they have paid into and are entitled to, are seeking to fill a quota.  They may have a family at home or circumstances you are unaware of - and would happily jump at the opportunity to be employed again.

I must say, the guys did sort of drift away from the subject of an applicant getting political on a resume, and slid into a different topic.  Your point is well taken, but I still love those guys,  we all get carried away once in a while.   Evil  crazy2 hoser

Might be worth responding to the applicant to remind him of one fact inconvenient to his logic.  The economy was still surviving until the nation realized that, "Oh, crap.  Obama IS going to get elected!"  Then the bottom fell out.

I have been digging through resumes for 25 years. My area of expertise is plant engineering. I have taken many positions with many companies, in many different cities. My primary goal is to improve the company's bottom line by improving efficiencies. This is done by forming a team that works together well and interacts with other departments with minimal problems. I have turned around every plant I have ever worked for, and have formed some fantastic teams. We opened this new facility in April and within 3 months we were running at 98+% efficiency. So I guess I do know a thing or two about people, and how to hire the people that do the best job for me. My bonuses say the same thing.

So, part of my job is finding good people.
His job is finding a good job.
He's not doing his job quite so well. If part of "selling yourself" includes selling your political views, you have a much smaller pool of prospective employers.  To a prospective employer it SCREAMS "I HAVE AN ATTITUDE!" Obviously I'm not the only one that will not hire him. I'm not a social worker, I don't want to hire someone that "might work out", as I said, I have a pile of resumes I don't have to settle for anything less than what suits me. I'm doing my job, he's doing his job, and we are both exactly where we choose to be. If he would choose to have a responsible adult review his resume he might be able to get his foot in the door.

I don't think anyone was making a broad statement about people who receive unemployment.. Shoot, I've had a job everyday since I turned 16 years old, and I'm about to be unemployed come May. I may have to recieve unemployment... but like you say, I've been paying for it.

The gentleman demonstrated extremely poor judgment by bashing either George Bush or Barack Obama in the text of his resume.  If this guy isn't capable of understanding that he is guaranteed to piss off half of the folks screening his resume (based on the 53/46 split in the electorate last fall), then he probably isn't the guy whose judgment I want to depend on in my workplace...regardless of his political leanings.

All other things being equal, unless this guy had some very compelling skills I couldn't find elsewhere; I probably would have deposited his resume in the discard pile also.

I would suggest all these folks (who think the OP was mistaken in his judgment call) open their own business or put out the effort it takes to be in the position of screening applications. At that point, use your own judgment. Until then....good call, Dude. When I have owned my own businesses, I always figured an applicant was at their BEST during the application process (putting on their best, like on a first date). If I didn't think they were what I wanted then, I sure wouldn't like them later. Lips Sealed
