Oh - you're talking about Hurricane Laura.
I've seen bigger. That were weaker (in wind speed).

Wow. You want to talk big? Scroll over to the East China Sea. East of Shanghai, South of South Korea and Southwest of southern Japan. Impressive. And a good place for it. As opposed to here.

My friend in Shanghai is happy it kept out to sea.

Possible Cat 4?   Shocked

https://www.foxnews.com/us/hurricane-laura-expected-to-reach-category-4-strength-with-life-threatening-storm-surge-before-making-landfall

No worries.  It's probably fake news, and the wind speeds have been inflated.  Nothing to see here.

It hits the coast as a major hurricane (+110 winds) and drops to a storm before the Arkansas border. What's that, 250 miles? Not playing down the damages it will cause.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/211610.shtml?cone#contents

It has and will be meandering quite the path.

I have several friends who live in the area this hurricane is supposed to make land fall.   All but one has evacuated.   He's a hard headed Texan and a Marine who insists he knows best.   All I can do is keep him in my prayers and hope is well when it's all said and done.

All the rest of my "frighten" but well informed friends are departing the area.   Have invited some to come to my place if they wish but all had their evac plans set and didn't need a place to stay.
Edited: I'm thinking they heard I can't cook worth a damn is the reason.
Troutdude, that invite applies to you also.

This looks to to be one big bad ass storm. I feel for the people it will affect, it wasn't that long ago they got hit hard. Like Ron White says, its not how hard the wind is blowing its what the wind is blowing.

And now, there's a huge chemical fire in Lake Charles, LA.

2020 has been an interesting year.
