Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens. You don’t need a passport to fly to Puerto Rico from anywhere within the United States. The island is located within U.S. borders and uses U.S. currency. Puerto Ricans have among the highest level of U.S. military service in the country.
An independent nation can negotiate treaties and trade deals with other countries, which Puerto Rico cannot. The Supreme Court has recently confirmed that Puerto Rico has no sovereignty.
A country also must be recognized by other countries as an independent nation. Puerto Rico is recognized as a territory of the United States, not as an independent nation.
Well, of course. But you see how easy it is to twist things? I mean you still believe, even after all that, that Puerto Rico is a State. Now I just say this 500 times all day and it will become true. Guilfoyle speaks of a culture not technical differences or distinctions. And it is from personal experience. It is their (her) perspective of immigrating to the US mainland. So as long as you wish to take her to task over her personal perspective from her personal experience, you will always believe Puerto Rico is a State. Only fair. She was born in San Francisco. She didn't immigrate from anywhere.

What a terrible mistake. That would be almost as bad as not knowing how many states there are.

No double standard. She was stupid too.
It occurs to me that someone is not qualified to identify others as stupid. As Puerto Rico is not one of the United States it is accurate to define leaving Puerto Rico to live in one or more of the United States as immigrating. Some of us have blown right past a significant portion of the Puerto Rican population that has no interest in becoming one of the United States but wants to be an independent nation. The OP originally ridiculed people who identified Puerto Rico as foreign and then repositioned to discuss whether Puerto Ricans are by birth U.S. citizens. Apparently you can make this stuff up.

Puerto Rico does not want to be become a state. The reason I kept hearing was due to money. Isn't it always about money. They receive more of it as they are now. I was there 3 times for help after the hurricane and the funeral of our friends mother.

Yes most are US citizens.
No, it is not a state, and it must never ever be made a State.
We have too many perpetual bad expenses to deal with as it is, and it would be an electoral D forever.
In August 2018, a debt investigation report of the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico reported the Commonwealth had $74 billion in bond debt and $49 billion in unfunded pension liabilities as of May 2017.
What does Puerto Rico owe?
$17.8 billion in so-called general obligation bonds 17.6 billion in obligations issued by Puerto Ricos Sales Tax Financing Corp. $9 billion in debt from Puerto Rico’s Electric Power Utility Authority, known as PREPA $52.2 billion in pension-related debt $21 billion in other obligations linked to utilities and other agencies

My issue is none of the above but that so many refuse to learn and speak the language of this country
People from Africa, Europe, Asia learn ENGLISH
People from Puerto Rico, not so much
My source, 40 yrs of being in Court dealing with interpreters for people born here and puerto rico
waving their flag and disrespecting ours gets old
Our gaining PR was a mistake. It robbed the island of the chance to develop as its own entity and gave entitlements a purchase in the minds of the people
We would have done better with Cuba

I agree. I think most in Puerto Rico are able to speak American but will choose not to depending on the situation which irks the heck out of me when I'm involved. [ I find the same in certain areas of Canada] Maybe we are just spoiled. English seems to be the language of the world in most cases. English is the language of aviation worldwide. I've flown quite a bit in Canada.

Aahh Kimberly, was interesting to watch her cross and uncross her legs when she was on "The Five" on Fox in the afternoon. Beyond that I don't really care if she and/or her mother are green and come from Mars, she's not the one running for office. What I find kinda ridiculous is the fact that in under five hours this thread has gone to two pages cussing and discussing a somewhat worthless subject. Going back over 30 yrs. and well before I met my wife Rita, I dated a beautiful lady named Rose that was born in PR. I distinctly remember more than once just when we were about to go into a clinch, I asked "are you an American born citizen or a PR born American citizen?" As though it made any difference in the grand scheme of things!

Maybe you should listen to what she actually says.

So many simple questions to the OP left unanswered.
I firmly believe that the OP posted this thread to, in one terminology, "Stir the Pot". In so doing, I have ignored his postings and those of one other whose posts have the same, I believe, intent. No, I am not without sin. I sin daily. Casting the first stone is something I try not to do. But, as I said I am a sinner and always fall short. But I try to be truthful. In my posts, I try to post what I believe to be real and honest questions and statements. And even as I type this, I wonder if I am doing the right thing by even making a response. However, I am. And I decry those that "Stir the Pot". I decry them because they do not have the best interests of the United States of America in their hearts. They have ulterior motives that would harm this country that I have loved and stood for these many years. And while I have not fought for this country (in actual combat) I did spend six years in the Unites States Navy Submarine Service. I stand for the National Anthem, I have the flag flying on my yard. I kneel to no man.

Unlike the Alien, I like our President. I have no reason to believe Alien doesn't love America. I am not convinced those who think or vote differently than myself are hiding ulterior motives that would harm this country... They're just confused.
