Everyone here seems to have super fantastic Valkyries, mine I picked up for 2500.00 and put a little into it.. re-built carbs, fixed the exhaust and took care of brakes etc. It has 66,7** miles on it and runs very well.

I also added the bags, driver backrest, a trunk and installed a National Cycle street shield (tall), on that I put windshield extenders top and sides, I can move things around for all weather conditions or remove it entirely. The tank bra I got is off an interstate, so I had to modify for the front bolt location.
It's got some bumps, scratches, pitting etc.. but overall looks pretty decent.

I've always loved the look of Indian Chiefs with leather fringe so I installed some.. people seem to like it and give me compliments on it regularly. It may be ghetto-ish but honestly, I love everything about the bike and most of all I love ripping down the road on her.. she's my beautiful blue therapist and never lets me down.

My gal and I are heading to San Simeon next week for a few days and I'm renting a U-haul to pull her up there, I'd prefer to ride it all the way but.. well, she's the boss Haha.
We went up last May and hit Big Sur while in the car, every fiber of my being wanted to be on the Valk instead of sitting trapped in a cage. Does anyone know if I'll have problems loading onto the rented motorcycle trailer?

It will be traumatic rolling the Valk up into the trailer.  Be sure to tie it down well.  When you take it down be certain the travel and shaking hasn't dropped fuel into a cylinder.

Nice bike.

Nice bike.

I figure if she doesn't bottom out at the apex I'll be ok.. fingers crossed, and thanks for the tip regarding fuel since I hadn't even considered it. I'll be packing a tool kit to take along as my truck is a 95 Ram diesel. It's reliable but you never know. Not long ago I drove it up to Sequim Wa. for a job up there, towing 6+ tons.

Thanks for the compliment, is the bike you're sitting on a second Valk? I've seen the awesome yellow beast.

Fuel valve shut off and side stand up. Don’t compress the forks very much. Seal blowout may occur.

Thanks Britman, wasn't planning on it, the trailer has a well for the front wheel so I'll 4 corner strap while it's upright.

I installed a Pingle when re-doing carbs so I'll be sure to have it off, it's turned off by default anyway, key off and gas off is what I do every time..

I'm thinking maybe 25-30% fork compression?

Seal blowout may occur.

A penguin was driving through Arizona on a hot, summer Sunday when he noticed his oil light was on. He got out of the car and, sure enough, it was leaking oil all over the road.

The penguin drove around the corner to a service station and asked the mechanic to take a look at it. The mechanic said he had a few others to look at first but if he came back in an hour he could tell the penguin what was wrong with his car.

The penguin agreed and went for a walk. He found an ice-cream shop and thought a big bowl of vanilla ice cream would really hit the spot, since he was a penguin and it was Arizona in the summer, after all.

He sat down at the counter and started in on his ice cream. Of course he had no hands so it was rather messy. By the time he was done he had ice cream all over his flippers, and his mouth was a total mess.

He walked back to the service station and said to the mechanic, "Did you find out what is wrong with my car?"

The mechanic replied, "It looks like you've blown a seal."

"No no," said the penguin. "It's just ice cream."

I like to go about 50% but, I'm sure others will have different opinions.   I don't want my baby moving around.   If, those forks do compress, then your bike could lean.   Don't ask how I know this.

That's actually my first Valk.  I've owned seven.  I still have the Blue and White but it doesn't get much time.

As to fork compression, just enough to make it tight.  30% may be right.

When I bought my Valk, I towed it home on a U-haul trailer that had the front wheel extension area. I had no issues loading it; no unsteadiness or bottoming out over the "crest".

Enjoy the trip. I also prefer to ride anywhere I go, but if trailering is what it takes to get the bike there, so be it. Beats not having the bike there at all.

Yes, we were up there last May and hit Hearst Castle, it was very cool, seems the man was pretty down to Earth and loved Western type society, the dining room is a huge table and guests were wearing 'casual' attire to the man's social gatherings, and he had a ton of African animals on the mountain the castle sits on. It's refreshing to know some of the 'elite' are just cool people.

Ha, man I'd like to have more bikes, I met a dude recently who bought a Valk that had been sitting for a couple years covered next to a barn, I think he overpayed at 5200.00 but he seemed happy.. struck me he was a Harley type dude.. he also said his other two bikes sit.. as he prefers to ride the Valkyrie  2funny
I'm guessing the bikes sitting neglected are his Harley's.

I'm curious.. it costs me 128.00 to register each bike every two years in Ca., what is it like where you are? Insurance costs around 250.00 a year I think.. would need to confirm.. Bottom line is, I'm thinking of working a trade on my 82 Goldwing for a couple rifles.. my gal's ex works in a machine shop and custom builds rifles..

Far as trailering goes mine been on a trailer twice. Weren't happy bout that either time. When my alt crapped out in Il. I was bout 100 miles from my Brothers place and A M A in their infinite wisdom had lowered the tow miles from 100 too 50 they'd pay for.  Lips Sealed I seem to recollect that u haul has 2 sizes of M/C trailers. Git the longer one. Far a the tie downs go da prez brought alomh a 2" ratchet strap that went across the seat and was tightened snugly. Then one to each corner-4 point tie down in addition with the 2" strap. Ross has been here and there picking up and delivering Valkyries and far as I know NO problems long or short haul for him.
Far as looks on yer scoot I'm likin it. And keep upmost in yer thinkin muscle-One and ONLY one person Must be happy with what ever you do to YER scoot-you see him/her in the mirror. I run a WW tire up front on my Green/Pewter/Silver I/S and both wheels have the openings painted neon green. Have a LOT of Nam and Navy "stuff" on my scoot by Choice as I ride P G R. I get a LOT of compliments on my P O W/M I A grill that replaced the stock grill. And MOST important bars mirrors road pegs radio seat backrest All set up for ME.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

I cant seem to find the post that I referenced to tie down my bike for the ride home. The author was RJ and same trailer as in the 2 links I posted. When I bought my Valk in '13, I used a Uhaul trailer to get it home, worked well. The "notch" at front of trailer looks good but a bit to wide to work as it should. I followed RJ's advice to a T. Only thing I did differently is I secured 2x4's behind front wheel  as well as in front of and behind rear wheel. Also, mine is a Standard so I secured the rear via the lower shock mounts. Very secure and as he mentions, check it periodically.
Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Hmm.. seems reasonable, reg fees aren't a big deal, but the liability minimums here are in line with car insurance, in other words, I can't get any lower than what I pay, even with multi-vehicle discounts. IDK.. been awhile since I looked at the policy.

Hey Alien, next year, my buddy's coming from Kentucky and we're planning a ride, even driving my work rig up the coast I was loving it, being on the bike would make it an experience on a whole nother level.
My gal wants to move to the PNW, she loves Port Townsend, Washington, I love it up there too, but the weather and short days in winter would be depressing for me I fear.

Around $100 to register both bikes annually.  Not bad.  No annual inspection required here.

Full coverage insurance is about what you're paying, but that is for both bikes!   I also have my truck fully insured with the same agency as well, which helps with rates considerably.

Despite our long brutal winters, I do keep the bikes insured year round.  Heck, a tire could spring a leak and one could topple over in the off season, which would surely suck!

I've got some very heavy trucking straps so I'll pull the seat and strap over the frame as has been suggested, along with 4 corner strapping.. should be fine.
Thanks for the suggestions and well wishes  cooldude

Update: Bad news, the Dolan fire has Hwy-1 shut down between San Simeon and Big Sur.. oh well, guess we'll head South instead.. dang it, I was really looking forward to seeing Big Sur on the bike  tickedoff

Well, loading and transporting the bike was fine, got up here and have dealt with a cold marine layer blanket of fog/smog, ashes and chilly temps. The cold cuts right through when it's damp and foggy.
My honey and I took the Valk out yesterday and today, both days have been crappy weather and the road to Big Sur is blocked off, just as well I suppose as we couldn't see a damn thing with this weather, and it makes riding more hazardous and uncomfortable than it should be. Weather was forecast to be low to mid 70's and sunny.. so much for forecasts.. luckily we brought just enough cool weather gear to handle it but riding in the morning bites right through all layers of clothing.
Took a nice pic of the Blue Angel (my Valk   Grin ) yesterday at an overlook off the 46 heading to Paso Robles. We stopped again today after eating breakfast in Atascadero.. a bit disappointing but we made the best of it.  cooldude  First world problems..  Cool

Well Bret. Disappointing, yes, but as much as we want them to, things don't work out perfectly sometimes. When faced with a similar situation, I use it as an excuse to plan a visit to the same place again for a do-over. Once I mentally decide to do that, I continue to use the current trip to explore enough so that on my return trip, I can use my time a bit more wisely.

Safe travels!

Thanks Ken, agree on making the best of it, next time will be our 3rd trip up here. Weather was much better last May.. and now is supposed to be the warm season.. we had a great time regardless, so all in all, a successful trip. My pseudo wife (been together 10 years) is happy, so I'm happy   Smiley
