I saw this website because of sandy’s post the other day and I thought this was the coolest snowmobile I had ever seen! Sure it doesn’t go 180 MPH like the sleds people use on the trails around here, but it’s really cool!! Made in 1924! Now that’s ingenuity! http://www.flixxy.com/snow-vehicle-concept.htm there is no audio so don't turn up the volume! |

Its amazing that did not take off! With todays lightweight engines and frames, the pontoons could be made considerably smaller and the machine would float and run in water as well as snow and on ice. In addition, it could easily run on dirt or blacktop.

I would think that the only bad thing for that machine would be denting the daylights out of it by not having enough snow. But, if you’re in the arctic, it’d be great. Unlike a caterpillar track, there’s not much that could go wrong. Think of that “ice road trucker” show on TLC, now that’s were they could use a machine like that!

I've seen that before. Seems like Henry Ford was involved in the project. Anyone ever read the book "Ford, the Men and the Machines" ? I've only owned two Fords in my life but have always been impressed with Ol' Henry. He would order the engines for his Ford cars from the Dodge Brothers and require that the crates for the engines be made specifically to his plans. He would uncrate the engines and use the crate parts as floor boards for his cars. No cost for the floor boards !!
I too think the idea would be cool with a flat six !!
