I may have an opportunity to pick up a nearly flawless black '99 28k Interstate for $7,500. I have not seen it, but the seller has a reputation for being honest. The problem is I already have a nice '98 low mileage(18,000k)Tourer that I'm very happy with. But, I think the Interstate may be a better machine for my future plans of touring the USA. I really can't afford to keep and maintain two Valks. Just wanting some ideas/opinions form more experienced Valk riders. Thanks for any advice!

that's an excellent price. i paid $6900 for mine and it had about 49k miles. there wasn't a scratch on it when i got it, then with in 20 seconds my precious middle child put a 1" gouge on the side! funny thing, when i bought my F150, she gave me a foot long scrape along the side with her bike the first week i had it!!!
funny thing, once they're out you can't abort them....

'97 Tourer? I was thinking the Tourer came out in '98? Low miles for sure.

Mike I've had both starting with a 99 tourer and upgrading to a 2000 interstate. If your gonna travel a lot the interstate is a sweet machine. Either one will be a valk and we all know that they're great rides but I've near missed my tourer. It was a great ride the I/S is much better for me cause we ride two-up about 50% of the time.

''97 Tourer? I was thinking the Tourer came out in '98? Low miles for sure."
It began as a standard and the owner added everything to make it a tourer. I guess you could call it a tourer made the expensive way. Pete.

Depends on what you need to ride and where your going, riding style. The 1st Valk I saw was a I/S. To much. Bought the Tourer a couple yrs later and loved it. I always had it my heart to get a I/S. Now after 9-10 yrs of owning the Tourer there is no way I'd want a I/S, or another for that matter. Its set up the way I like it now. We hit a dozen states a year with no problem. Tecnically they ride the same. I did put a batwing on this fall and will give it a chance next riding season. I guess it could be cheaper for you to deck the Tourer out. Get a I/S tank, batwing, etc and your set. If you have the cash, get it and sell it for more then you paid for it.

I now have both an Interstate and a Tourer as do many others here. The interstate can't be beat out on the road for a long ride and if a passenger is to go along it provides a bit more comfort and entertainment because of the seating and the radio. The Interstate will also provide you with a bit more protection from the elements because of the fairing and pods. The trunk is nice also for its added carrying capacity and ease of entry. For shorter rides and around locally, I seem prefer the Tourer mainly because it may handle a little better due to its lower center of gravity. Everyone will have their own opinion about these things. As someone stated earlier, you can't go wrong as long as you are riding a Valkyrie. The price seems to be a good one if the bike has been well cared for and I wouldn't even give the 29K a second thought. My Tourer had 29K when I bought it and after a little TLC it looks and runs like a new one. "Yo pays yo money and yo takes yo choice."...JTL

Have a I/S here and running "Super Valk"..... what would be the difference between what I have and A tourer with a batwing. I have the trunk modified and use it on long trips. I like the built in radio and double head light.
$7500 is a good price, have seen I/S going for $8k and more. Bought mine in June for $8500 + tax.

Sounds like a great price. I got my 99 I/S last year for 9k. It is exactly what I want. I have never had a tourer but my mechanic has one and loves it. good luck, It is a hard decision but if I had the extra money I would do it. Tbone

Based on over 88,000 miles of riding 2-up on a '99 IS, I recommend the IS if you ride 2-up. If you don't ride 2-up, I have no recommendation. Good luck on your decision.

Usually also putting a solo seat on. Some move the trunk ahead, where the rear seat was.

Yep... Super Valk =trunk removed and brackets fixed for easy on/off (see thread on here) and solo seat. Also added a fender bib to cover marks from I/S seat....... 10 mins back to regular I/S.

I may have an opportunity to pick up a nearly flawless black '99 28k Interstate for $7,500. Figure the bigger tank is worth 1K plus cost to paint, trunk is worth about 1K, what other options come with the I/S??? If you can get more than $5500 out of your Tourer you are easy going to be money ahead if you want the larger tank, full fairing and trunk. Just about any of the chrome that you lack on the I/S that you have on the Tourer you can basically swap across - some differences in engine guards I believe, tank tie etc. You can do the Super Valk route and have the best of both worlds.

You can do the Super Valk route and have the best of both worlds. The man from Peace River is quite right.
I ride a standard myself. I once for a short time had an Interstate, but that's another story.
Were I to choose between a Tourer and an I-state I'd pick the I-state hands down. Super Valk mod does give you the best of both. There is a bit more weight up front with the fairing, but it's of minimal impact.
The price is good. If it strikes your fancy snatch it up. Turn the Tourer around for a bargain price and make two happy Valk pilots.
