If you have ever seen my bike you know the answer to that one It is only a few weeks since we buried uncle David He was chief electrical foreman building the towers and a year since Akira Yamasaki who was chief on the antenna that rose above the one tower He was my friend's dad. Akira spent time in internment camp in WWII but loved this country as much as uncle David Both considered the event an act of war. Never forget The men who tried to stop the hijacking of 93 are heroes we should also remember them 3W took us to that place. Very sobering And riding down to ground zero in October to raise funds for the first responders you could still smell the death smoldering

I was at work, midnight shift, at Logan that day. At the end of shift everyday at 7AM, we'd pile into vans and travel the length of the airport to our hangar for clockout. Our route took us past the terminals. We had to hold for an aircraft pushing back, later research found it to be American Flt 11. United Flt 175 pushed back around the same time.
Those jetways still fly the flag.

Always a very tough day for me and my family.
I, WE, will never forget! Ever!
Thank goodness our present leader will NEVER bow down to an arab leader.
And New Yorkers just applauded the Vice President and chanted "Four More Years" as he left the stage. Guess Cuomo doesn't know his own constituents as well as he thinks.

I was at a FY end meeting in Tampa. The meeting ended abruptly of course; then a hussle to find a way home. All flights were shut down. Rental cars were hard to get and folks were splitting rides heading north and west to get home. I had a wife with our twins looking for their dad! Prayers for all those involved in every aspect of the horrific event.

I was 600 miles from home doing a disaster recovery exercise.
Today is a good day to remember that there were those willing to kill themselves to kill some of us. Also remember that in certain places with certain cultures there was celebrating in the streets that Americans had died. They too are our enemies.
I remember people gathering in a public place singing together God Bless America. I fear a lot of us have forgotten.
The men of flight 93 were real Americans, real heroes.

Dang, that's kind of chilling. Being that close to the victims and hijackers both, and having no idea or chance of doing anything about it. My recollection of the day is nowhere near as dramatic, but just as etching in my brain all the same. I had got the transfer here to Arizona in June. My wife and kids stayed back in Alaska to sell the house. I had flown back just one weekend all summer to see them. About 9 or 10 that morning customers were coming in and talking about a plane crash. Just as I got up to the break room to see the TV, the second plane hit. It was stressful being separated from the family and not be able to get back to them. God forbid a situation arises where I would need to act as bravely as the people aboard flight 93. I hope I would be half as brave.

I was 13 years in to a career as an airline pilot flying for a major air carrier in 2001. I was home that day. Up to that point our annual recurrent training was light on foreign threat activities. Our training instructed us to do what the hijackers said and 95% of the time everyone walks away unscathed; we were so naive.
The reality of the world changed everything about the job and I can tell you things are in place to prevent such a copycat episode to be repeated.

I was teaching my accounting class when the attacks happened. On of the other professors came to tell us what had happened and suggested that I get to my business office as all hell was about to break lose. As I had been in the investment business for 25 years at that point I had several friends that worked in NYC. I lost a couple of them that day, but still think of them often. We went to the city for Christmas shopping and just to show support over Thanksgiving. Everyone was open, friendly, supportive and thankful. Sure wish we could get back to that feeling in the city today! Not only are we forgetting as a society, we are falling further into the abyss of shitstorm that we swore to never let happen. God bless the people who were the victims and their families.

I was in my office a block behind the White house. There started to be scuttlebutt about something happening in NYC. Then the video started coming in. Then it was.... hey you can see a big pile of smoke, and it looks like the Pentagon. I went out at looked at the smoke. Then the DC Fed cut everyone loose to go home. The whole city tried to go home at one time. Me too. What a waste of time. I should have stayed at work, as it took most of the afternoon to get home.
Imagine metro subway cars jam packed like the old how-many-humans-can-you-possibly-get-in-a-phonebooth.
You'd go to the next stop, and the doors would open, and people would fall out the doors, then scramble to jam back in.
Really, it's almost better to get blowed up (quickly) than go through that (slowly).

Great picture Joe! I think everyone has vivid memories of where they were and what they were doing that morning. For me, it was a bright sunny morning and I was heading to the cemetary in a neighboring town to "visit" my brother who was killed in a bicycling accident on that day a year earlier, when the news came over the radio. I just remember it being a somber morning to begin with, then turning into a very surreal day as further news of the events were reported throughout the day. Without question a day that should always be remembered, and definitely a day to remember those who were directly involved or affected... none more than those who sacrificed themselves to protect others.

Jess - was it as bad as trying to leave after the National Capital Fireworks on the Mall ? After being required by necessity to go down there for work for 18 years, I refrained from ever going down there voluntarily for nearly anything. (And in 10 years of retirement, I've been down just once to a Tea Party, full of remarkably nice people and families). I saw the fireworks from a 42 foot Chris Craft several times, but never on foot. (great parties) When friends and family came to visit me over the years, I'd give them my car or my metro cards and advice, but I would not go down there with them. The day the wife and I finally decided to go see the (free) National Zoo, it was family day, with 3 separate family shootings, so we never saw that either.

I was working for a major airline in Pittsburgh at the time. We were just wrapping up our morning meeting where we go over maintenance delays across the system when the Maintenance Control Manager broke into the meeting and said an airplane just hit one of the World Trade Center towers. He didn't know what kind it was and all he knew was that all of ours were accounted for. I went back down to my office and my wife called and was telling me what was on the news about it and while we were talking, the second airplane hit. At the time, we were in a office building just off the airport and I had a window office overlooking the field. I remember looking out and seeing a 757 flying eastbound over the field and was thinking that was odd, he was going against traffic, but didn't give it much thought. I didn't know it at the time, but that was the Shanksville airplane and that by the time it had turned around and started heading southeast, ATC had figured out what was going on and had us evacuate the hangar and other buildings on the field as it was heading in our direction. We went to Shanksville memorial for the first anniversary. It was a very moving experience. -RP

I believe that you would. Not to take away from their bravery in any way. But, the people on Flight 93 knew their fate. Passengers and flight crew had heard about the other hijacked planes. They knew that if they did nothing they were going to die. That makes the choice of doing something much easier. It doesn't mean that it still didn't take guts to act.

We [ the outfit I worked for at the time] had 2 offices in the WTC. Lost quite a few that Tuesday.
I took a day off and was taking a couple friends to Boston that morning. I had a couple very odd conversations with ATC, but they wouldn't say too much, just wanted to verify each time where I was going.
The GPS shut down twice about 15 minutes apart and restarted both times without going thru the startup cycle. The planes hit the Towers 17 minutes apart and apparently SAC was checking signal integrity at those times. [ thats what I was told later]
The first plane was hijacked just north and way way way above us just NW of Albany NY.
We were the second to last to land at Boston. I just wanted a quick lunch, fuel and head back home. The lineman came up and I thought he was telling me a joke, but there was no punch line. I had to ask him what he was talking about. He said I wasn't going anywhere for quite awhile. I had to call the tower every 4 hours. Well, i spent 3 days in Boston, [great town] and had to rent a car and drive home. When the airspace as reopened I was able to go back and bring the airplane back home.
This is one of those days, like the assassination of JFK, that everyone remembers where and what they were doing.

Where I was and what I was doing is of no significant consequence or importance, the fact is, the world changed that day for all of us.
Willow is correct, those that did this, those that supported it and those that cheered are and shall be an enemy until the day they meet their maker. There are some things that are unforgiveable. That night the news was showing a large group of mid-eastern/ muslim students at Buffalo University in the streets cheering as well as others cheering in other locations. I felt then they should all be kicked out of the country immediately.

Wife and I were getting my groceries that I carried on the truck at the time. The Ladies just ahead of us said something about a plane crash. Checked out went home and we passed B I L place on the way home. As we got in the house the phone was ringing and it was B I L-turn on the T V any channel NOW! W T F over? The tube came on with Fox just in time to see the 2nd A/C hit the other tower. Wife and I were about paralyzed. Began switching channels between the majors and pics and stories bout the same. Called my dispatch-I was with Heartland at that time-as I had a Fed-X load that had a hard delivery time. My guy said Stay Home As I have 2 trucks near down town N Y C and I'll git back to you. 2 days later I delivered that Fed-X load. Normally had a rent-a-cop on the gate. This day 3 Harder looking rent-a-cop and the A N G in Full Combat Gear and Dogs-explosive and drug sniffing dogs. After I was cleared into the Mamphis airport I dropped my trailer on the ramp usually occupied by aircraft. Went on a P G R mission yesterday and after the Pledge we had a Prayer and Prayed for all those lost and the Families that were changed forever. And most of us there had already Pledged to NEVER FORGET. And I will add-may all those involved in their killing of AMERICANS that day Sep 11 2001 FOREVER and EVER rot in the deepest pits of hades. RIDE SAFE.

I posted this for something to think about since attacks on the US come in many forms. We often forget of the attack on the compound in Benghazi but I want to remember this attack also. This is the story of the real Benghazi and what happened that day in 2012 and not the coverup that ensued. It also tells about a weak leader at the time. I have listened to many whistle blowers and this puts the story together of the real events. https://ammo.com/articles/benghazi-attack-september-11-2012-us-embassy-libya-9-11There was another attack on September 11th but it was not on 2001, but it was in 2012 and that was the attack on the consulate in Libya when Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, was killed. The September 11, 2012 attack was actually two attacks by two separate militias. The first was the attack on the diplomatic mission, the second was a mortar attack on the CIA annex. But the attacks themselves were effectively watched in real time by the White House, thanks to security drones in the region. By 5:10pm ET, President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta were watching real-time footage via a drone deployed to the area. Half an hour later, the State Department officially refused to deploy the Foreign Emergency Support Team (FEST). FEST exists specifically for rapid response to terrorist attacks around the world and have special training with regard to defending American embassies. Within three hours, an Islamic group in the region had claimed responsibility for the attack. Approximately six hours after the first shots were fired, two former Navy SEALs who constituted the only serious defense forces for the consulate were killed by enemy fire. The surveillance drone had been watching them fight on their own for over two hours. For example, the attention of Hillary Clinton’s deleted emails first came to the State Department and the United States Congress thanks to these investigations. Indeed, approximately 30 of the “gone with the wind” emails from her private, home-brewed server related to the non-response to the attack on Benghazi. This is according to the State Department itself. The answer lies in two political concerns: First, the re-election of Barack Obama, second the planned candidacy of Hillary Clinton. In this case, the bad policy was the Obama Administration’s desire to avoid even the appearance of “boots on the ground” and hand wringing about getting the permission of Libya (and about 12 other countries) to deploy assistance to the consulate. This was part of the general political philosophy of appeasement of Islamic terrorists that marked the Obama Administration.
