I didn't want to steel anothers thread. He was talking about the Natchez Trace and a comment was made about a yellow triangle kinda stretched road sign in the median. I decided I better ask if this was a real thing or not. I'm going to be heading down to the Trace to spread my brother's and SIL's ashes. Not sure if it will be soon or in the spring. I've never been on the trace but I know they liked to ride it.

Dont know about the signs but the first 20 miles and the last 20 are the best. The rest is kinda Blah.

I agree with my friend Barry but I like the north 20 miles of the Trail to be my favorite.  smitten Now those signs you mention; my last trip they were not in place so can't say that is something you need to worry about. Might be a hoax ??? I can under stand why your brother & SIL like the ride. Very sorry that is why you are making that trip. I'm sure they will love you spreading their ashes along the Trail.  angel

I have ridden the trace a few times, only once from Nashville to Natchez.  And I agree, the first part is the best.  But there are several things to see on the way.

One is the old trace.

Also, you will have to leave the trace for fuel and food, at least that is what I remember.

Also, when I take the trace with some new ridders, I like to stop in Tupelo and take them to the Elvis landmark or display where they have his "shotgun" house (I think that is the correct name).

Just a 1/2 mile or so out of town, since you are there, why not stop.

Thanks for the replies. I had a feeling the sign thing was probably a personal/ inside joke kind of thing. This is some good information. I think the northern part is what they rode the most as they lived outside of Nashville at the time. So it looks like that will be where they end up. Thanks again.

True, like a long driveway but, once, you should ride the complete Trace, just to say you have.

I had heard about Natchez Under the Hill from a John Wayne movie (The Commacheros).  So, when I was looking for places to ride, I wanted to go there and taking the Trace from Nashville to Natchez seemed to be the way to go, incorporating history into my visit to Natchez.

What I did not know was how the Trace was formed and what it was used for.  Interesting history since it appears the Trace changed from season to season as travelers made their way back north. Or at least that is what my memory tells me.

The Natchez Trace is like  a long ride through the woods. I enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway for better scenery and more to do.

Looking online the speed limit is mainly 50mph.

I believe I'm correct in saying it used to be 35. Then it was a snooze fest.

That does make a big difference re being on police alert.

However do be on high deer alert!!!!  Shocked

I've did the entire Trace several times as well as the entire Blue Ridge Parkway probably close to 15 /20 times over the years.

Trace is great if one wants to have a r-e-l-a-x-i-n-g ride. With no Commercial traffic and practically any traffic at all it is a stark contrast to the Florida riding. Yes lots of sameness but a good clearing of the mind.

Whatever it is, it's better in the wind.

On a road less traveled.

The sign is an inside joke and it actually was not on the Trace, it was a reference to another ride we did and having family with you on that back.
We have done the Trace several times heading to GOTF, and yes its a long 450 mile driveway, however it was much better to enjoy the peace and quiet (except for one years tornado in Mississippi) than the super slab alternative.....
Speed limit is 45 all the way down, 18 wheeler's are not allowed, and the only real traffic is when you pass a city that has an on and off, and that traffic dissipates rather quickly.
You must get off the Trace for fuel, lodging and food
Enjoy the ride
