About 4 years ago I had an accident that totaled my beautiful 2000 yellow and black standard.  I worked on this bike for many years and road it 80 mile round trip, to and from work during which time I lived in Antioch, CA.  I loved that bike and many of you shared that you admired it as well.

It broke my heart when I totaled it. Here's what took place, while heading into a sweeping freeway on-ramp at 45mph and my front tire slipped for a split second, on what I don’t know. At first, I thought I would recover however the bike righted itself quickly at an angle resulting in a radical wobble which threw me.  I landed on my back and slid down the on-ramp watching my bike fly over my head.  By the time I stopped I had suffered a fair amount of road rash in areas my jacked had rode up and pants had given way.  While this was painful it could have been far worse. My Valk unfortunately suffered far worse having tumbled over many times before coming to rest about 50 yards further up the ramp.

Well about two weeks after the accident my insurance company informed me that my valk was totaled and not nearly worth the blood, sweat, tears, and amount of money I’d put into it.  As any of you who’ve been in an accident with one of these knows, you’d better keep your receipts…. I had not.

Long story short I took what money I received and invested in a Victory Cross Country Tourer, from a seller in the State and town I moved to a few months later, (Star, Idaho).  I really convinced myself I liked the bike and would own it for a long time, I foolishly deleted my Pics and membership from the VRCC.  I did not want to think any more about what I’d lost.

Fast forward 3 years, yes, the Victory is a fine and beautiful bike but my heart is just not in to it.  So what happens? 2 weeks ago I’m scanning Cycle trader and there in front of me, a picture of a 2000 black and red Valk tourer.  All of my great memories of my old bike came flooding back.
I couldn’t take it.  I contacted the owner, who lived in Oregon, and agreed to make the 10 hour round trip to see if we could agree on a sale. Long story short I’m the new proud owner of my second Valkyrie and I’m looking forward to making it mine.  I will take some time since many of the components I had on my black and yellow are no longer available, however perhaps with some help from the VRCC classifieds maybe I get it done.  My Victory, it’s on consignment for sale.

So here I am to reintroducing myself under my new handle, Tader Bob, from Star, Idaho.  (Formerly “Valkflyer”.

Welcome back  cooldude ... I haven't crashed my bike - yet - so
be careful, those cool add-on parts get harder to find every day,
and we get more brittle ourselves...

Here's mine from a rainy day last spring - it is pouring outside now...

Welcome back! I did a search of the member list, and your old handle is still listed. Maybe one of the administrators can link you back to your old user ID? If you wanted to try, that is. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php?action=profile;u=4805

Bob, welcome back.
There are several of us that live in and around the Boise area, depending on the time of year (without the virus) there can be up to 8 of us riding together or just having breakfast on a Saturday.
PM me if your interested in hooking up with us.
During normal years (2020 is about as ab-normal as Young Frankenstein) we take many rides on Saturdays, just for fun around Ideeeeho.
Again welcome back to the insanity.

This is a great group of people on this board, thanks for making me feel welcomed.

As with my last bike, I look forward to the technical input. I've got a few years to catch up on. Like the post from Ken Tarver on using a GL1800 shifter that both Jess from VA, and Hook shared with me. That’s now on my to do list.

Yep, lots of talented and creative people. It’s good to be back!

And yes I'm looking forward to meeting with my fellow Idaho members, I'll be in touch.
