It’s 0630 on Friday and the rain is over from Sally. Oh the fresh smell of coffee then the comforting sound of the coffee maker gurgling. Then...silence. The coffee pot died right after producing one full cup. Judy and I shared it. Now hunting for a new coffee maker is top of my list today.

Well we always have the manual style. Plastic cone you sit on the teapot, put in the filter + coffee and pour the hot water in by hand. That’s the emergency procedure. But won’t cut it long term. So just got back from the hunt and plugged in the new machine. Now back to work and your regularly scheduled programming

Tween Dad the U S Navy and truck drivin and my own personal preference I can NOT feature starting a day sans coffee. I got tired of the cheapo pots I'd been buying. I now have a Cuisinart I am VERY Happy with. A 14 cup maker that produces a better cup of coffee than my old 12 cupper did using the same amount of coffee. Hope ya find one that makes you and Mama happy. The Cuisinart also lets me know when it needs a vinegar boil out. RIDE SAFE.

I tried really hard to get a good one that was simple enough that it wouldn’t talk to me like that. Judy asked as soon as I walked in the door “ does it have a cleaning cycle?” I said nope. Then I read the instructions yep I lied. Oops. Oh well I guess all the better ones do that now.

not a coffee drinker. I can drink coffee socially but it's been quite a long time since I have. When I do drink coffee I drink coffee without added cream, sugar or flavorings. My heart is sad for folks whose well being seems to depend upon an intake of drugs, alcohol or coffee.

In my 64 years, I've never smoked, have never even tried weed or any other type of hallucengenic drug once, I rarely drink alcohol and dont use pain killing drugs, and I make it a real point to eat a healthy diet (and No, I'm not a bore or a prude... I'm still a "fun" guy to be around ) Yes, I like the taste of coffee in the AM .... but let me put your heart at ease Willow... there's no need for it to ache for me....I'm just fine BTW, I'm really looking forward to the thermos of good hot coffee I'll be bringing with me when i set out at 5 AM tomorrow for a day of flyfishing up in the mountains ...

Yes coffee may be a tad higher on the necessary scale for some of us than others but for me even though I like coffee a lot, I can be well, very well without it. Kinda like my Valkyrie, I ride most days because it makes me happy but my well being does not depend on it either

Caffeine has an effect on the vessels for blood delivery. People who drink caffeinated beverages regularly develop a dependency on that effect. That's why a regular coffee (or other caffeinated beverage) drinker when deprived of that beverage experiences a headache. I have no issue with someone liking the taste or even the effect of coffee. I do think it's a negative thing when one becomes dependent. The dependency is usually evidenced by saying something such as, "I'm just no good in the morning until I've had my first cup of coffee." I reckon we all have something or some things on which we become dependent. I do. Some are acceptable and some are not. For me a dependency upon something other than food and water that I take into my digestive system is unacceptable. You deal with yours. I'll deal with mine. Please note I didn't say I felt sadness for those who drink coffee. I specifically sad I feel a sadness for my friends who are dependent upon the substance.

Headache. Hmmm. I get headaches rarely. Now, I do not drink coffee during the work day. One or two cups at breakfast and then sometimes if there’s some left over one after dinner. I usually attribute the headache to sinus and allergy problems. Could some of them be from lack of caffeine. Hmmmmm. I just take two Tylenol and it goes away so it don’t really matter much

My neighbor gal gave me her old Kuerig(sp?) when I was loading the truck to move up here to Wisconsin. It came with a big....no BIG warm hug and a kiss....or two or three. Makes great coffee but using those little cup doodads is expensive so I picked up a couple of the plastic things and bought a can of regular coffee. Coffee tastes just as good and less expensive that way. I usually have a half cup in the morning with my b'fast, often don't finish the cup. Sometimes a half cup of decaf in the evening if I want a hot drink with my supper. I've gone days without so guess it's not an addiction. If this thing ever breaks down and needs replacing, I'll replace it with a regular brewing apparatus. The Kuerig is too expensive to keep buying those little cups you throw away.

When I worked the flight line I drank coffee - lots of it. Our pot had two settings, stun and kill. One year, I think it was in the mid '70's, my wife and I got some kind of flu that put us down for a week. I couldn't keep anything down, it was really bad. Once it abated, I lost all desire for coffee and never got it back and haven't had a cup since then. I do like coffee ice cream though.

My wife finds the Kuerig to be wonderful for her 1 cup a day of coffee. It also makes great hot chocolate and hot cider if you have it .

My mother was 100% Swedish. We had coffee on the stove all times of the day. A lot of times it was her egg coffee, I've never tasted any coffee better. When ever I have a cup of coffee I can't help but think of her and her cooking.

John they make a reusable cup that is a screen all the way around and you just put whatever coffee you want in it so it will be less expensive because you dont have to buy filters anymore

I have always bought the top of the line Mr Coffee. The problem for me is they just got too complex. So a simpler machine was there, a Black and Decker. Took a chance. It’s a higher level model but not the highest. And it makes reeeely good coffee. Better than the Mr Coffee. So problem solved and an improvement made. But Carl you can rest easy. We didn’t consume more today just because it was better.

I buy B&D's. They last about 3 yrs. performance wise but never had one every fail @ $20. Big fan of Seattle Best Portside Blend (medium roast) which I believe used be the #2 blend 5 yrs.? or so ago. SB is finer ground than most unless you grind own to get it that fine. Now I READ the instructions how to clean properly maybe it'll last longer. I also use unbleached (brown) filters. Before SB I used Maxwell House brewed strong. Luv's me java 1st. thing in the morn.

I order my coffee from a company in Michigan called the coffee beanery, vanilla nut is my favorite and always loved coffee. I especially love one before I go to bed it helps me sleep.
Krups or Cuisinart seem to give me the best taste. I only use the gold filter in them since dealing with the paper is PIA.

I've been lower middle class my entire life. Folger's Columbian for me. Being as I don't fall in Willow's subset, I'm sure he won't be concerned with my 12 cup+ daily intake. Brenda used to bring home some Starbucks once in a while. It's good, just too expensive for my tastes.

Costco (Kirkland) Colombian (a fine grind, almost a powder) is the best tasting economy coffee I ever found. It has no fillers, which when you open the can and see blond granules mixed in with the dark brown... those are fillers (like in Maxwell House). I used to buy fancy (expensive) beans and grind them up at home, like Hawaiian Kona, but quit that foolishness. Also, our city water is is pretty good, and you only taste chemicals in springtime, but I fill the pot with water the night before and leave the top off (not poured in the reservoir), and by morning a good amount of chemical has evaporated off. It helps the taste a bit.

Our primary coffee is purchased from a local blender/roaster here in our little town... Back Porch Coffee. It's as good as any other good coffee, we get a bit of a discount as a loyal customer, and it fits in with our desire to purchase as much of our daily food items from locally grown or sourced suppliers. We do drink a fair amount of decaf as well... whenever we feel like a coffee in the middle of the day. For this we often use Black Rifle. The local fishing/hunting store started selling it a couple years ago. It has a strong taste for decaf and again I get free bags and mugs every now and then because I spend so much there on outdoor gear

My Cuisinart arrived with a bronze filter which I use in that pot Every time I make coffee. I threw my paper filters away a LONG time ago. The oils and some fines end up in the finished product. Those of you here that use a paper filter take that paper filter you've brewed a pot thru shake off the excess grounds now rinse the filter lightly in Cold water. That brown staining you see is Extra flavor you did NOT get in yer cup of coffee. I brew my coffee from Beaumont Classic roast medium roasted. Once or twice a week I treat myself with Fair trade Certified Dark Roast 100% Arrabica coffee. I purchase both from my local Aldi. Never been a coffee snob. After so many years on the highways of America you learn to deal with a lot. Now that I are retired all I gotta keep happy iz me. RIDE SAFE.
