IMO it depends what you're using it for.

I had/have no problem with any 22LR ammo I ever bought, even the cheap stuff. But I use it mainly for "plinking" with pistols at closer ranges (25ish feet).

However I've had issues with CCI ammo with my .17 HMR. Which I use for shots 100 yards or more.
The CCI seemed to be all over the place at 75 yards and farther where Hornady ammo was way more accurate and consistent.

The extra punch of the Stinger cycles a semi auto more reliably. 22 semis have a tendency to jam if they aren't super clean.

CCI stinger ammo .22 LR?

All I buy is CCI Mini Mags (except the Aguilla Colibri, and Super Colibri... for quieter than any pellet rifle, out of a .22 rifle; quiet, but dirty)

Here is a couple internet blerbs:

Stinger came in the most accurate of the high velocity rounds in our 2014 22LR shootout. We were unable to try it in the Volquartsen as it is expressly forbidden in the manual, likely due to a tighter match chamber.

"Stinger" cartridges have a longer case than 22 LR cartridges loaded to U.S. Industry specifications. They can stick in the tighter chambers of target rifles, including the Ruger 10/22 Target Rifle, which can result in a hazardous ruptured case and release of hot powder gasses and brass when fired.  But standard rifles, OK.

CCI Mini-Mag is one of the industry's leading high velocity rimfire rounds that features clean-burning propellants helping to keep the action cleaner than other popular rimfire ammunitions. ... CCI Mini-Mag is non-corrosive, new production ammunition that features Sure-fire CCI priming technology and brass cases.

Mini mags come in 36 grain hollow point (my favorite) or 40 grain solid point (actually better as a human stopper than the HP)

Ammo is hard to find these days, and prices up.

There was some .303 British at my 3/4 empty gun store/range yesterday, but that's a bit down my list for the coming revolution. (hellova spear though)

I've been reading about the run on firearms and ammo, but in 25 years I've never seen this store so nearly empty.  6 used rifles on a rack that usually has 50.  Looked like Walmart on Mondays.

I had to pass on the single shot Thompson center contender in .45-70 (for $800).

Whatever the weapon likes. Try different manufactures as what "proofs" the best. My Ruger 10-22 likes Federal Eagle hollow points the best. My Beretta U22 pistol, Winchester Super X. Never had much luck with CCI or Remington 22 LR.

Jess, I had one of those Thompson Contenders (lost when the boat sank).  Had two barrels, 357 and 30-30.  Mounted a two power scope and had Pachmayr grips.   Shot an antelope and several grouse with it.  Hand loaded the 30-30 with spire pointed bullets.

Good gun.  Slow reload.   30-30 kick a bit.

You never said what kind of gun.  If its a bolt gun, any brand will do (accuracy may vary, but all will function).  Some autoloaders are picky about bullet brands though - they have cycling problems with some brands and not with others.  We haven't found any to have a problem with CCI minimags.

Dan

That should shoot anything at all.  (I think even CB caps, shorts, subsonic, Colibri, longs and long rifle)  The manual should speak to this.

Some may be a bit harder to eject than others.

You just need to make sure you are getting good even primer strikes (and detonation) from the hammer.  Velocity will vary as will point of impact.

Edit: I found an article with some good information about the 617 and ammo here:
