Vintage helmets are definitely cool, and highly collectible. I’m partial to the Arthur Fulmer 1970’s line. And I still use them. I know they should just be for decoration at this point, but I like them; they fit good, look good, and they have a history all to themselves.

Oh and nice matching helmet too.

I have my Dads racing helmet from 1966. I am thinking about sending it to Bell and having them renew the insides. the helmet is made of fiberglass.

Good idea to send it in. I have tried to reline a helmet from a kit, it never seems to come out quite right when a generic rebuild kit is used. Would love to see a picture of it. David

My father made me buy a $70 Bell 500 back in 1965 before a helmet law in this state. What 15 yr old has $70. That helmet didn't last long, it ended up in 3 pieces after an accident. The only time I've beed down on pavement.

Was always told that helmets have a limited shelf life. I'm quite sure I exceeded that several times with different helmets. But, I am grateful for the one I was wearing two years ago, had it not been for that helmet, I doubt I would be typing this.
One never knows when one will need helmet protection, I highly encourage the use of one.

A lie to sell more helmets. right now a few makers say seven yrs, but the materials are the same they were using when they would say three yrs. if the helmet sits in a high temp area in the sun for hours on end, months at a time life is shortened.

It would seem I used the wrong terminology. I really didn't mean shelf life. Usable, safe or impact resistance life? Regardless, most of my helmet use was in sunlight and I'm glad I was wearing it. After I got full use of it, I threw it in the trash. It hurt just to look at it even though, I didn't and don't remember the event. Rams

I thought most of those helmets were damaged when the wearer was shot out of a cannon.
