and in the event one gets caught in unexpected mob gathering.
Has anybody thought of putting a cotter pin through holes which would be drilled in the stop switch to prevent somebody from killing the engine easily?
Or just running a separate switch and by-passing the handlebar switch, to a not so easy access location, except the for rider?

How about not riding anywhere close to those towns/clowns.

And perfecting your Uturn.  If they are close enough to hit your kill switch, you screwed up.

I'm talking worst case scenario.  they are called flash mobs, wolf gangs, etc., they just pop up, can happen anywhere.
there was a case like this happening in York Pa a few months ago, all of a sudden they were filling the streets.

I disconnected the kill switch on mine and have it as another switch to use for whatever I want.

Since it serves almost no real advantage to me. The bike has a kick stand switch, and a tilt switch for emergencies. I'm with Jess I would ride around the crowd and if I had to go through them the kill switch is the last thing that would be on my mind. If they are either grabbing for your handle bars or they hit your handle bars then I doubt you would be able to keep the bike upright.

On a bike in a crowd, possibly hostile, you are at a major disadvantage in having to secure the bike before you can defend yourself. The only thing you have with the bike is speed and distance  and some amount of maneuverability. A dirt bike would be a bit different but you are not man handling our bikes at 800 lbs.

Flash mob does not mean they can appear like a ghost either.  Grin

You would have to be in a very crowded place, limited escape spots and have many people assemble so quickly to limit your time and ability to escape. I have been in crowds with my bike and a horn and a moving object people do tend to get out of the way. The surprise and shock and awe some do not compute whats happening and naturally move. Situational awareness like always is your friend.

Stop riding your bike to the protest?   2funny 2funny 2funny

Seriously though, there's not a high chance you'll encounter people with hostile intent who actually know what a motorcycle kill switch does and where it's located.  They could just as easily shut off your key switch and toss your key.  Really, once people are close enough to touch your bike, you're SOL.

I agree with both of these gents.   Should such a situation occur, I obviously haven't been paying attention.

Just another reason to practice left hand shooting.

Unless you're a lefty.... (not THAT kind of lefty).

Of course I'm jesting..... I think.

But really, tying up one hand on a pistola while riding is a bad idea, especially through a crowd.  And how pissed off would you be to drop your pistola, and have to ride out of there quickly anyway.  (Sh!t, I bought that through an FFL, the paperwork leads right to me, and now some lefty (THAT kind of lefty) has it.)  Not good.

And many states now require you to report a lost firearm on pain of criminal penalty, so there you are down at the local PD, admitting you brandished a firearm at a peaceful protest and dropped it and left it there.  Really not good.  (Or you make up another story about the loss, also a crime.)

Better to use the bike as your weapon of choice.  But smile, you're (and your plate is) gonna be on 70 cameras in any event.

Hey, my bike and my pistol were both stolen at the same time.   crazy2

Just ride an old Indian.

You know, that's why the throttle was on the left side on those old bikes.  They catered to the police market early on.  (I think more than Indian)

And you can look far and wide and not one range will let you practice shooting from a moving motorcycle.

Wouldn't be hard to rig one up on a switch but, I have a feeling it might cause a bit of Attention Seeking Syndrome after you used it the first time.  Smiley

On a bike, it's probably advisable to lift your legs up a bit.  And wear asbestos pants, and a full face helmet, and keep your face hair trimmed short.

I once had a black powder accident resulting in a lost beard.  On the upside the hair protected my face skin pretty well.  On the down side, man did that stink to high heaven.  My nurse thought so too, and insisted on shaving the residuals off.  Was fine by me, the residuals were not worth saving.

(I've told this before) I married that nurse later that year.  She always pointed out I got burned twice.
