Yep, even I can be cool sometimes... WOW! I awoke thinking it would be just another ordinary day… Up at the usual time with the usual routine following, which included… the usual dribble on the ‘news’ (code for party-line propaganda), only this time the reality TV program of so-called presidential debate was also being ‘analyzed’. The always ‘spot-on accurate’ intellectual talking heads were explaining to the ignorant masses all the ‘subtleties’ we’d been unable to fathom for ourselves that had actually happened, so we would no longer be in the dark… This won’t take long; I’d thought to myself… I’d actually watched a few minutes of that spectacle the evening before, but that didn’t take long either. What I’d sadly observed appeared to this uninformed biker gypsy to be two unfriendly children playing nastily in a sandbox, and I simply wasn’t up for any staged ‘drama’. About the time the moderator totally lost control (the first few minutes!), I totally lost interest, so… maybe some Perry Mason… I just love that remote channel-surfer!!! Who won? Lost? Most simply rely upon their tried & true party affiliation determinator tool… Our guys do only good and never any harm, their folks never do any good and are destroying our democracy… That way it really ain’t hard at all ‘to immediately know’ exactly what’s happening. I quickly tuned out… I may have even set a record this time! I went out on the front porch where my landlady has seating arranged for us to leisurely gaze upon our enchanted forest, enjoy her lovely flower garden, look for any critter activity, plus watch the daily parade of humanoids up and down along our not busy residential street. It was as it usually is… another very ordinary day appeared to be shaping up. But wait, what’s this?! As soon as my feet crossed the front door threshold, I could tell something was very different… It was decidedly cooler than it has been! We do tend to notice those things down here in the ordinarily hot and humid south! I was vaguely aware that a cold front had been working its way across the Midwest and down through the Southeast, but in Florida there usually isn’t much impact other than rain… No kidding, the rain had stopped and I figured it was at least twenty degrees cooler than usual lately! I would have confirmed that, but I was fearful even the weather folks might be discussing you-know-what. No matter, the precise numerical change was unimportant, what did matter was that the long anticipated and eagerly awaited drop was noticeably underway! Has global warming finally been arrested? I don’t have a handy party affiliation label to check, so I’m resigned to continued ignorance on that political football question… No denying it was far more pleasant than usual, though! I got plum giddy… To make a long story shorter, my landlady and her shadow (Taz) joined me out on the ‘observation deck’, and we happily discussed this wonderful weather development… and then it happened… “I’m thinking I might leave a little earlier than I’d figured for the FCR.” It often starts that way… An idle question or half-baked idea innocently tossed out, then… a road trip begins to take shape and… We kicked that prospect around some, then I made the call to load-up and head-out that very morning! Yep, the FCR (a short two-day ride from there) wouldn’t actually be for another just over two-weeks… However, there’s no problem there I can see that a nice longcut can’t solve… I’m thinking it just could be coddiewomple time again! Lord knows that would sure beat dealing with ‘the news’!!! DDT

Good on the long cut there Bruce. Have taken a few of them myself once I got out on the two wheeler. Hmmm haven't been that way in a while....... On the temp thingy, yep it was 52 here about 50 or so miles North of your landlady's place this morning. Giddy was a good description. I got quite a bit accomplished today.

Twas a beautiful day, cool enough that my spousal unit actually came outside and helped me clean up a fence line of trees, vines and thorny plants. No idea what kind they were. But, the "hired help" left after getting stuck a few times. It's hard to get good help now ya know. Regardless, was a great day. Now, if my new tire would just show up, I could get it mounted and get some wind myself. Although I know you already know this Bruce, the door is always open for you. Well, that is unless I don't answer it....... Rams

Rob,
Thanks! I'm still perfecting my technique, though... Had a great day in the saddle, but... you know... a few lessons learned, one or two reminders about stuff... the usual...
DDT
Terry,
Yeah, I seem to recall us doing a longcut or two together back in the day! Sure is good to be back at it. No hurry, no worry, no fuss, just beckoning horizons and the call of the open road. Well, maybe not 100% on the no worries thing. If even POTUS can catch the Chinese Cooties, then I'm... exposed, I guess. And, there is still that judgement limitation thing I'm burdened with! Oh well, can't get it done sitting in that danged ol' recliner! Low 50s early morning at home, too... way better than high 70s and low 80s with humidity near those same numbers to start things off!!!
DDT
Ron,
Yeah, I've heard that 'hard to get good help' refrain many times... and for some reason I was always the one stimulating that remark and being referred to! Oh well, back at it and doing what I do... Appears we just may have a dining experience shaping up ahead this evening that... well, who knows?!
DDT
Jason,
Absolutely! Go right ahead! I've been working on the pursuit of that subtle variation on 'modifying routes to gain advantage'... It just seemed to this ardent trekker that reducing ride time & distance, shortcuts in other words, was actually antithetical to the purpose of being aboard in the first place. I'm sure getting better at this, too...
DDT
Everybody,
Have I ever mentioned that I just love my life? Well, I do... proud to be here, too...

Bruce,
You live a very good life indeed, and yes, it's beyond cool! Gives me hope to own a future like that one day.

Bret,
Good luck... I do hope your dreams come true. Mine is a very special life that suits me to a tee! I do love it so, and I recommend some variation of it for anybody who has the opportunity to try it on for size. 'Customization' is obviously required, but the pay-off is huge! I'll look forward to reading about your adventures when you get around to posting your own tales... Thanks for the reply and comments!
