Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: October 04, 2020, 02:45:34 PM »

I just came into some information that should be shared... Paul Mull (Wimp) will be attending the FCR (Saturday evening), but he'll be doing so with much apprehension... Those who know him already know he has a serious cancer condition, and that his situation is not good at all. His wife Margie is also in very bad shape, but she will not be attending.

Paul has been reluctant recently to even show up at any Valk events, because he doesn't want to be constantly reminded of his sad condition by having to answer a continual barrage of well-intentioned questions about it. Questions about Margie are also a painful and deeply negative reminder of what lies just ahead for them both. They both know full-well that we are all sincerely concerned, and that we want so much to express our strong feelings for them, but that actually does more harm than good.

I am making a special request of all who attend to please refrain from even bringing up this sad situation or of asking any questions about his or Margie's health. If he were to choose to mention it, please only acknowledge his comments, but do not join in any conversation or attempt to extend the dialog.

Paul and Margie are both keenly aware of their dire status, and they are certainly not trying to ignore it. Paul would simply much prefer, understandably, to focus on enjoying himself and his time with us discussing fond memories and better days. Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated!!!

Update:

Talked with Wimp by phone this morning, and he told me Margie was going to try to make it too, after all. Further, they both are going to see about coming Friday and staying over Saturday evening, as well... Not positive about either of those hoped-for changes actually materializing, but that is the direction things are now going...

He was in his usual 'rare form', funny as all get-out and in very good spirits. It is my expectation he and Margie both will contribute much to the fun we'll all be able to share, so I'm definitely looking forward to this outing!!! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the posse, also!!!

agree,  no one wants to talk about cancer over and over again same stupid questions would depress me as well.

My co-worker work with daily, I found out 2 weeks ago who has been out more than in the past 1 month knew something was not right.  Finally found out she has double cancer,  prostate and ovarian cancer,  and her prognosis is not good treatments zapping the strength out of her age 58 is all.    I vaguely remember chatting at my desk with her before Covid came into play earlier this Jan/February about her telling me her family history of cancer and so far she said,  knock on wood,  been lucky.  Not lucky anymore.   Cry

If I was her I would not come back into work and enjoy whatever time she has left whether 6 months or 1-2 years or whatever it may be.  Her husband is retired and her mom is still alive but she not doing well either into her 80s dependent on her to help her mom out.

Prostate and ovarian?  Not many people have both of those body parts.   Wink
