I considered posting this is the current corona .....getting real thread but thought it deserved its own thread.

If the moderator wants to move it then by all means do so.

https://www.theblaze.com/op-ed/horowitz-did-who-official-just-admit-that-covid-19-death-rate-is-similar-to-that-of-the-flu

There’s too much info in this article to selectively copy and paste, it’s not too long.

I believe we are finally getting to the point where the truth is finally being realized by more and more this virus while deadly in some cases is not the global killer it was originally made out to be.

Will I call it a hoax, no can’t do that but it certainly seems like a practical joke gone sideways.

I believe there have been several here who have opinoned that "the C-19" is just a stronger / or was comparable to the seasonal flu, so WHY are we shutting down the economy ?

No, not mad in the head. It’s not a global killer...wiping out complete villages, towns, cities and communities. A very slight percentage of the global population have died, the same as the common flu kills people around the world on a yearly basis...each and every single year. Year in and year out.

While the flu has taken millions of lives over the years, where has the call been for common decency and protocol of mandatory masks? Shutting down a world economy, keeping children from school and ruining peoples lives and livelihoods.

This virus isn’t a global killer. It’s a killer on the scale of slightly higher than the common flu and a recovery level of 99+% for the majority of the world.

I don't know the world numbers off the top of my head. So, let's stick with USA numbers for this example. On average there are anywhere from 25 thousand to 60 thousand yearly deaths from the flu. We are likely to come close to 300 thousand covid deaths. That is not, as you state, comparable.

But isn't the average yearly flu deaths over your way 3-40K (ranged from 20-to a bad year 60K)

and 19 hasn't had a year and its 4x that already....so a rather nasty flu and if things were locked down quicker to let the hospitals sort a plan to combat this.........which it seems to have now as the death rate has dropped per infection rate........It might be a more normal flu rate from here on.........one would hope

The CDC dont even know whether it is transmitted by droplets of saliva or not they change postitions weekly. Of the ones who have died from it most all had underlying health issues and COVID was not the main cause of death. Hospitals are paid more than twice in a covid death than another form Of death. So see how easily if you get shot in The head and test positive it will be listed as a Covid death?

USA INFLUENZA
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2019-2020.html

Conclusion
During the 2019-2020 influenza season, CDC estimates that influenza was associated with 38 million illnesses, 18 million medical visits, 405,000 hospitalizations, and 22,000 deaths. The influenza burden was higher in young children (0-4 years) and adults (18-49 years) compared with a recent season with the 2017-2018 season, a recent season with high severity, and provides evidence to support how severe seasonal influenza can be at any age.

WORLDWIDE INFLUENZA
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6815659/

Conclusions

Until late 2017, WHO estimated that seasonal influenza was associated with a total of 250 000 to 500 000 deaths from all causes annually [1]. Recently, however, three different groups have provided estimates of influenza's annual mortality burden using different methods. The first to be published, from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and coordinated by WHO, estimated that influenza is associated with 290 000 to 650 000 deaths from respiratory causes alone [2]. WHO adopted this range in late 2017 as its official assessment [2]. In early 2019, a publication from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) estimated a range of 99 000 to 200 000 annual deaths from lower respiratory tract infections directly attributable to influenza [3]. Although the burden of influenza is known to fluctuate greatly between years, neither of these estimates were broken down by year or circulating strains.

We report here a third estimate, from the Global Influenza Mortality project (GLaMOR), of 294 000 to 518 000 influenza-associated respiratory deaths

_____________

My comparison of the flu to Covid deaths was not a direct comparison, perhaps I should have phrased it differently. Meaning the same as the flu has it’s own separate impact with its own death rate globally and in the grand scheme of global deaths by a single “common” virus throughout the years just as deadly.

I haven’t researched the numbers yet but let’s just say we throw out the 1st 5 months of numbers regarding deaths due to the brand new nature of Covid and all the stuff that was complete unknown nature of the virus and look at the current numbers going forward. Things are looking more positive now since we know treatments work and the possibility of recovery is more likely than originally believed.

Close to the number from the CDC Website that lists COVID only deaths in the US at 197,884 as of October 6th, 2020

Still fewer deaths, when adjusted for population growth, then attributed to the Hong Kong Flu in 1968 and no national shutdown took place then.

I have tried to stay out of this discussion, but I can't hold back any longer.

The above numbers indicating the amount of people that died from the flu are numbers that continue to happen even though "THERE IS A VACCINE FOR THE FLU" and has been one for decades. But the death rate is still very high.

YES, this pandemic is serious, but if you factor in the numbers, if and when a vaccine is found, and there will be a vaccine for it. The death rate should come down to numbers that put it more in line with the flu.

Even though I am in the group that is most likely to die if I get the china Flu, I still believe that when my time is up, it is up, and I feel we made a huge mistake shutting down our economy due to it.

If you get the flu, and are expected to die per your age or other medical conditions, your loved one's can sit by your side and have the time to say goodbye. With the C-19, you die alone, kind of sad. I see family's every night explaining the grief they go through when the get the news their mother, father or one of their family members are dying and nothing they can do to tell them they love them, or say goodbye.

Another issue re. reported positive cases. Our pastor and I were talking about this last Sunday, he had been fighting a sore throat along with other symptoms that made his dr. suggest he get tested just in case. His doctor's advice was to wait unti late afternoon to get tested. When asked why, he simply stated by then they've reached their quota of positive cases to report for the day and your chances of a correct result is much higher. My daughter experienced the same thing. Her entire family was tested in the afternoon and all tested negative, the youngest daughter the following morning and tested positive, yet she hadn't been anywhere or around others in weeks. After the required time, they had her retested but done in the afternoon. Tested negative. Kinda makes one wonder.

By the way, the pastor tested negative as did his wife.

CDC stats
2,855,000 registered deaths in the US in 2019.
2,087,504 registered deaths in the US through 9/26/2020.

As an aside, homicides have increased 28% from 2019.  It's not just COVID impacting total deaths.
