Every day I come onto the board and every day I'm amazed that it has become more of a political pissing match then a motorcycle board. I am guilty of getting in on the fray myself. Every time it comes down to us vs them. I'm voting for Trump as I'm sure most here are, but the few that ar'nt let us know all the time how much they hate this president. Every time we are asked to prove some Democrat wrong doings and when we provide proof it's never good enough. "Oh that's a conservative site it can't possibly be true". Every time. To be fair it goes the other way too. Especially since one particular left leaning member here can't make a point without being condescending to the person he disagrees with. I have been a victim of this condescension myself and it's getting real old.  No one is changing their mind so I ask you, what's the freaking point of continuing to do it every day? Rant over.....

Speaking for myself, lots of stress I think.. this election is nearing and the stakes are in the stratosphere, hence people want to release and vent..

That's my personal assessment anyway, I'm feeling it too.. and these days I'm venting more in the wind. Peace and solitude go a long, long way, but one has to seek it and take action to make it happen.

I may have to ride a 3-4 hour loop to the mountaintop, but it pays dividends for my mental health as solitude and peace don't come easily to me.

I think tomorrow is a good mountain day  Smiley

A couple, first it lets eveyone know just how serious and how many there are that would vote for Trump or with conservative values.

It shows a true separation and those with opposite points of view. Its also telling of not only there arguments but the lack of veracity of those points. It shows the thinking that goes into their thinking process also. Everyone looks the same but some are radically different in thinking.

It also promotes an exchange of information that may help some in the discussions with others to maybe persuade them to vote for Trump. Some of the information shared here is not widely in the media.

It also gives some a vent and provides an reason to post. It would be pretty quiet if no one posted opposite points of view..

These are only a few points

It pretty much like you said an exercise in futility to convince them and they dont really seem to have strong supporting information but at least they are entertaining and can get your blood pressure up so as to pass for exercise.  Grin Wink  cooldude

I got to the end of your rant and remarkably, you changed my mind. I will only do it every other day now.

Oh Oh .... changing my mind AGAIN!!

I focus mostly on the motorcycle related posts and am reasonably stress free from the political hogwash.  Just let them have their ranting and raving. It only makes them look small.

After 15+ years with my bikes, I have them pretty well under control.  Mostly.

I enjoy this board and (nearly) all of it's members as a wider family I just don't have elsewhere.

And I enjoy discussing current events with you people who are closer to my own age, and many of whom have similar backgrounds (including military) and conservative beliefs.  And though many of us are of similar political/social/economic bent, the different views and takes are interesting and I often learn things.

It's natural when the whole world around us is in a state of seemingly constant turmoil, that turmoil will spill over into this board.  I try to keep my posts upbeat and accurate, and to not engage in arguing back and forth.  It's hard for people you don't agree with to argue with you, if you don't argue with them.  Next time you read a post that sets you off, ask yourself whether you really need to fire back at all, before you hit the keyboard.  It's not like silence is tacit agreement.

So everyone should try to come here in good camaraderie and fair discussion and even lively debate, but not to fight or be upset.  If you let yourself get upset and angry, the other guy is winning.

Coming to this forum 7yrs. ago from a forum that doesn't allow political or religion discussions, I find my participation here much less on the General section due to these subjects being allowed. Also there seems to be a "click" and you have to be a member of or else you are ignored or taken shots at if any at all.

I enjoy a lot folk here but overall you folk don't make it very easy for anybody to fit in. I guess my Hoooosier' values  Shocked (as I do have some)  Wink and that being said, I still watch the Tech board to absorb any new info available but I have to say that Shop Talk covers just about anything I needed answered and the most recent being the wooden lift adaptor being one.

BTW folks private messages can be used w/o all the online "in your face" communication or is it post count thing? Or is it what we have become being a part of internet?

I shall digress and go back to my own little space in life and continue to drink my coffee as the "eye's in my head watch the world spinning around".

I respect your opinion as it is your perspective from your experience. As a member here since about 2000, I don’t think any clic’s exist other than a majority of members lean to the conservative side of things. But a clic usually goes out of its way to exclude those they don’t like, but here we embrace everyone, even though we may seldom agree politically and express those feelings strongly. You have to have thick skin to participate in some subjects for sure.

In the early years I spent all my time on the tech board too. I was soaking up all the knowledge I could and the volume of wisdom and innovation at that time was phenomenal. Still a lot to learn on the tech side today and some of the people we argue with everyday on the general board are very helpful on the tech side of the coin. Your participation on the tech board is much appreciated as it is on the general board or as it used to be called, “the sandbox”.
