Ride Safe, Be Kind

Earth

« on: October 08, 2020, 06:14:39 AM »

Guys,

I want to offer an apology for my recent behavior on the board.  As with many of us, I have fallen victim to my own anger and have engaged in condecention and rudeness, two traits that I despise, while discussing issues of the day with other members here.  I am not proud of that.

I could be wrong but I think the reason is that, after two very polarizing presidents in a row, we have become a nation of absolutes.  My side v your side, us v them.  No grey area, no common ground.  We (myself included) tend to identify supporters of a politician as being an extension of that politician.  Since we are just regular folks who can't directly express our thoughts to the candidate, we (again, myself included) unfairly take out our frustrations on their supporters.

Combine that with the stresses of daily life plus the way COVID has affected everyone... It's not suprising we're all a little touchy.

If political differences were not in the picture, I don't think anyone here would have any dislike for anyone else.  I mean, you can only get so mad about what oil is best or whether or not Cobra pipes lose power, right?.

As for myself, I am definetly a guilty party. I have been fairly relentless and not always very respectful in spouting/arguing my beliefs here lately. For that I apologize.  Agree or disagree, I have no desire to show disrespect to anyone on this board.

As for me, I will maintain my beliefs but I'm going to do my very best to keep them to myself and to stick to motorcycle or other non-political topics until after the election. I can't promise total abstinence, but I'll genuinely try.

Ride Safe,

Alien

Hopefully you'll make it to Athens, OH and we can come to agreement on fixing all the world's ills over some scotch.

I too have been trying, not fully successfully, to lower my snark, and stay out of the mud pit.

Won't say I'll fully stay out, but I've been deleting more of my own posts and/or typing one up, then deciding not to post it than I have actually making the posts lately.

Somehow it helps to type out my diatribe, then just hit the back button on it...

Alien, I'm down in San Diego so we're close enough to do a putt fairly easily, we can stop for a beer..  you can bitch to me about politics as I bitch to you about my problems, with enough cross talk neither will hear the other but we may end up feeling better  Haha

In the grand scheme of my own life.. with all the crap I'm currently dealing with, politics are easy enough to just shove under the rug and forget about.

I can't do a damn thing about any of it other than vote, the rest is just a waste of time and precious life energy.  Grin

If you're down this way Mt. Palomar is a nice ride and The Hideout is a good biker bar with plenty of outdoor seating, it's located in the middle of nowhere which makes it even better.

I think alot of us are getting wrapped around the axel about the politics and forgetting what this board was created for.  Personally, I wouldn't mind taking some wind therapy with anybody here. I for one would also like to apologize if my behaviour hasn't always been reasonable. Alien - apology accepted. I have viewed some of your You-tube videos and I think you would be a great guy to ride with.

I’ve never thought any less of you because of your points of view. We are all entitled. DISCUSSION is good, I’ve always believed in that. Discussion can become heated, that’s history. It’s human nature to fight for your beliefs.

We’ve all had bad experiences, bad days, weeks, months and years. Crap has a way of piling up and wrecking everything. I don’t believe you’ve killed anyone, I don’t believe you’ve burnt any bridges and you haven’t left any scorched earth so IMO it’s all good so fire at will.

It was real, not humor... I almost didn't post it since nobody would run
scared of getting on my ignore list... but Alien got on it in the last
few days or so, he's off now.

You've never been on it. Here's how you seem to me: law-abiding,
property-owning, tax-paying voter, father, husband, military experience,
from another planet, you never make your disagreements with me
personal.

I was just having a discussion with Brenda the other day. She said she never realized what a weirdo I was until I retired and she had to spend more time with me.  Smiley As we were walking the parking lot into Walmart I kept explaining to her how I was not a weirdo, but was hilarious and humble at the same time. She wasn't having it. So about then we came upon the Greeter, and I decided to ask her if she thought I was hilarious and humble. She said she didn't know.  Undecided
Coming from someone who is hilarious and humble, let me tell you. You have a gift of humor. (Whether intentional or not) "Don't ever let them crush your dreams"  Wink

Thank you, Alien.  I applaud your intent.

For what its worth there are about six other members who would do the board well to follow your lead and those are on both sides of the political divide.

The problem isn't just discussing politics but it is the easy lapse into disrespect during those discussions.

Good for you.  Good for us.

It's a matter of perspective.  From where I sit I saw the Democrats in Congress and the liberal media doing all they could to separate the country into anti-President and pro-President.  I don't see that as Donald Trump's fault.  It's a continuation of what was already taking place before him.

In the spirit of the O.P. we should just let it pass as a matter of perspective and not cause this thread to deteriorate into argument.
