Text exchange with a co-worker this morning -
Scott (me): Hey Kyle, when you bring the truck to the office, make sure you park it in the north lot. It won't fit under the bar in the south lot.
Kyle: Yep. Will do.
1.5 hours later -
Kyle: Hey Scott, I have a problem.
Scott (me): What's wrong?
Kyle: The truck is stuck. it won't move.
Scott (me): Where are you stuck? Did it quit running?
Kyle: No, it's kind of wedged in.
Scott (me) Where???
Kyle: Under the bar in the south lot
Scott (me): I TOLD YOU IT WOULDN'T FIT UNDER THE @#%$ BAR!!!!! I TOLD YOU TO PARK IN THE NORTH LOT!
Kyle: Yeah, I know but I really thought it would fit.

Many people must learn for themselves. Thankfully, lessons learned from experience are usually ingrained in the ol' memory banks for awhile. I emphasize usually.

There is an underpass in Durham NC that is infamous for commercial trucks thinking they know better, then they get stuck, EVEN THOUGH THE BRIDGE IS MARKED for how high a truck can be !!! It's been on the news lots of times...

Some learn by listening. Some learn by watching. Others still have to piss on the electric fence. We reall need a "dumbass" emoji. A casual observation....it would probably show up on a large number of posts.

No idea of the dynamics of your parking needs but, why can't you raise the bar in the south lot. It seems that if someone can think they can fit, it must be pretty close and being you warned the guy prior, it must have happened before. Or is there more to it like it is an entry to a multi level parking ramp where the bar is the governing height for the facility?

I have to admit, when I was a young stud, I knew everything and most adults (to include my own dad) just didn't understand the world we lived in. But then, as I grew up, Dad (and all those other adults) got smarter. It's amazing how they learned so much so fast as I grew up, ain't it. Rams

Make him pay for the damages, he will listen next time. No consequences, no cost, no learning.
Decisions have consequences mitigating actions to give the best result requires thought and planning.
My wifes father said, when you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
You take the decision, you take the responsibility for anything that happens.

I don't know what this guy does with that company truck, but for the next few weeks he should do it on foot (or pay taxis, or get his mom to drive him). Dummassery. Driving an eight and a half foot truck for the last two years, this issue has become more important to me than it ever used to be. This is local to me and the center lane is fine, but the other side will rip my roof off.

I don't know Kyle. He might be a really good worker who made a stupid mistake. (Or he might just be a real dumbass) Once, a long time ago we had a freezer case that would freeze up the coils and drains. They could never get the defrost heater to work correctly. About once a month I'd have to drag out the hose and defrost everything with hot water. Pain in the butt, that would kill about 4 hours out of my day. One time I got behind and decided to chip out the drain with a hammer and screwdriver. With about 6" of ice it's hard to judge exactly where the drain is. I punctured a freon line. On install they forgot to put a shutoff valve on this case. To make a long story a little less long, the store had to be evacuated, the Fire Dept. had to come and crimp of the line. All taking about 3 hours while 50 employees are standing outside in -20* giving me the stink eye. Probably cost the company 10k in lost sales, 5k in repairs and freon. I'd have never been able or willing to pay them restitution. And cost me a good 10 years of ribbing. Thankfully my bosses understood my value to them. I hope Kyle doesn't get fired if he is otherwise a good employee.

When I drove for O T R X outa K C you were told the day you were hired-We-O T R X-hired you because you are experienced. You only get no chances should you top a trailer. Guy that lived here in Willow Springs topped a trailer in Oregon. Fired on the spot and had to make his own way home from Oregon. The directions To All of our customers were in the computer. He thought he knew a better way. Cost him a good paying job and he had that blot on his record for awhile. You just DO NOT give a new tractor with 450 H P and a 13 speed that's Geared to 75 M P H to a newby. RIDE SAFE.

Of course some do I've been told that I couldn't get my 40 foot gooseneck through a drive through and a bank before. Proved them wrong and never scratched anything but, I wouldn't do it with a tall load either. Rams
