Just got a Census mail saying required by law.   Its not a form just a website to go to.   I truly believe its legit.    Im not against telling the govt my age, race, income, and how many people live at my address.    I went to the website and started.   It said it would take about 40 minutes to complete.   Thats way too many questions.   Turned it off.    Have any of you encountered this?

Mind posting the URL ?

When I did our's back in Febuary / March (before D left), it took me about 10 questions and 10 minutes

But yes, you should fill out the census. It's used for reps in Congress( House), federal money proportinate to your state, and other things. Some people got the short form, you apparently got the long form.

I did my census back in March.  Filled out the form on line.  Yeah, around 10 questions.

Then got several calls, which I shut off.   They left a voice mail saying they were from the census and wanted to talk to me.  I finally replied to them after checking the phone number they left.  They wanted to verify the info I entered.

Digger, you have gotten the long from to fill out.  There are two, some get long form, some get the short one.  You are just lucky.  Strange though that you are now getting the questions now.   Census should be shutting down soon.  Might want to check out the website.

I think they are attempting to go back and get ones that people never filled out. They extended it a month because of the Covid.

Got the census data package from the Government in March of 2020.

Got several mailings after that telling me to fill it out and send it in.  So,  I opened it up and it states (something like this).

"data as of April 1, 2020".  So I could don't legally fill it out until April Fools Day (quite appropriate it would seem). So, I waited until April 2nd so I could fill the forms out legally, did that, put it in the envelope and sent it in.

Two weeks ago, a car pulls up in our driveway.  A lady gets out with a big bad with a sign that says "Census" on it.  I she was not wearing a mask so I just opened the door slightly and ask what she wanted. She said we had not completed the census data.  I told her we had on April 2, 2020.

She said there was no record of such.  I said ok.  She had her phone out as if you wanted to do the census right there on her phone.  I said I would do it online.

Se gave me a website that appeared to be legit and a "code".  I logged in, did the census a second time.

Now, the point of all this.  If you cannot trust the federal govement to process a simple census form that was legally submitted six months ago, what makes us what to trust them with anything.  The answer is no.  There are some things that constitution says is the within in the prevue of the federal government.  However, most of the things they do are not and they have take the power.

So, was I counted twice?????? Darn if I know.

I just spent a month working for the census and for the most part I ran into very few who refused to answer questions.  I ran into a lot who said they already filled out the information online but for some reason I kept getting their address.  They require you to contact neighbors if the resident refuses to give you information, even if they claim they already filled out the information.

We got one and it took seconds to complete, there were very few basic questions.

After that we have had 3 different people stop by the house wanting us to give them our info. Explaining that we already did they would put down that we refused. I argued with them that we are not refusing, that its already been done. They didn't care and wrote that down anyway.

Well we can fix that for you Dennis.

Dear census folks, our friend Dennis in MO needs a home visit from you people.  He only claimed himself, but he actually has four women there with him who didn't get counted.  They never go outside because he threw away all their clothes.  You need to go by about 5AM, and pound on the door real hard.     Grin

I got one in the mail, filed it out and mailed it back, and haven't heard a word since.  (But this will probably screw that up)

never filled out my mom's census.  What they gonna do lock her up since is 'required'?  She is in an asst. living home and has altheizmers.

I do wonder why though they need all our information?  Shouldn't it be private and no one's business but ours?

I have gotten long census questions or like this year short. This year was straight up number in the house hold and a few other questions. Think it was back in 2000 where I got a long form that asked all sorts of questions about education level etc.

Think the news said locally we were only at 54% response. If they know that then why do they have ask all these questions? I just think that is a weird statement. "Everyone get your census forms in, we're only at 54%responding."

I would think honest everyday people have already has provided the info needed on their IRS filings. That's all they need to know. Everytime we divulge our private info we are increasing our risk of being fleeced by someone.

Expanding the gov't., spend more money/taxes by hiring more people to get info that they already have? Go figure.

I just heard today the supreme court has approved Trumps request to shut down the census early. The cut off is 11:59 this evening according to PBS radio. The reason for his request was because of a rule all the calculations and such have to be completed by December 31st and because of covid he did not believe it could be accomplished if it went full term. I don't recall when the original cut off day was but I believe it was about a week from now. So if you want to be counted better jump on the website as the information they gave they weren't sure when they were going to stop counting the ones postmarked for today. I never heard of it being mandatory, but there are many things in this world I have not heard as of yet.
