Is there a place to pull power for an acc relay that won't power it until the engine is running? It will be powering Gerbing stuff, radio amp and GPS power. I really don't want to pull the power from the starting/ coils until after the engine is running. Would that 5amp acc line do that? and where is it? (photo) Thanks  Terry Cilley

Pull the power straight from the battery, but use a relay to cause it
to not be hot until you have the key on. There's a low amp "acc" circuit
under the right side cover inside of one of those boots that's good
for triggering relays. If you're new to Valkyries it is worth saying: be
careful not to break the tabs on your $ide cover... I have a PDM-60
circuit breaker (not fuse) box that has a programmable delay so
that it doesn't go hot until X seconds after you turn on the key.

if you're only planning on adding one thing (which rarely is the case! Smiley ), then make sure you add a fuse to the power line BEFORE the Relay.

In most cases, we tend to add a few things and it's better to install a Power Distribution Module like  hubcapsc suggests.  Especially if you're not familiar or comfortable doing electrical work.

This weekend, I actually replaced my spaghetti mess of add-on wiring with a single second fuse box that I manually populated.  Also replaced the additional wire loom that runs from the battery compartment to the front of the bike.  It's a tedious process, but necessary if you have a lot of added stuff.

Jersey's right on the organized power supply module.  When I built the electrical mods on Jade I already knew most everything I wanted to add from what I added on Deerslayer - one at a time and that resulted in a mess of wires.  So on Jade I installed a PC-8 fuse box behind the right side cover and a relay panel under the seat which has 11 relays - all I could fit on the board.  I added more relays behind the right cover, behind the forward tank gussets, and in the headlight bucket - total count 21 relays.  All are labelled as well as the fuse box for easy circuit ID for maint/diagnosing.  All wires loomed as much as possible.

As for your question - per Mike be sure the POWER supply for your relay is fused close to the power source - battery or fuse box - then trigger it from the blu/wh circuit that powers the hi/lo headlight sw.  This is the line that is switched off when you hit the starter button, same as the headlight, by the starter sw.  BTW you should also install relays (two, one ea for hi/lo beams) to power the headlight and trigger them with the wires that originally go to the back of the headlight bulb to remove the headlight load off the starter sw.  This will eliminate having to maintain the sw - a known failure point on std/tourers.  Pretty sure the I/S has headlight relays from the factory.  If you don't already have a schematic you should get one - it's in the Honda service manual.  I think it's DAG has one online for download - use the search fn.  For the headlight relays - I wrote that up on my tech tips.  It's really the same as the Smart Switch promoted here, but it's DIY instead of plug & play.  See for my tech page - http://horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Tech_Tips/Headlight_Upgrade/headlight_upgrade.html

To clarify, the accessory circuit is powered when the key switch is in the "run" position (which I think is what you are asking), AFAIK if you actually want to power something only when the engine is actually "running" then you are going to have to do something different.

This is the one I used most recently, (2015).  But its back ordered and not available until November.

Has integrated relay, fuses, and connection system.  Its been in service since 2015 on one bike, maybe longer on the other bike but I don't remember when I installed that one.
