Here we go, rear service with redeye orings and his shock bushings, intake orings, petcock vac line.  I found about 4 oz of 80w in the pumpkin, new metzlers tires with dyna beads and new metal stems, front and rear brake pads, front calipers rebuilt, bled the clutch too. Timing belts done while front wheel was off (easier), she'll get new plugs, honda blue coolant, new Yuasa battery. Going to drain the oil because of the 7 year old gas smell it has, add walmart dino oil for a flush to get her synced in then go with the Mobil 1. Jim was over when we pulled the plugs to spin the motor, we both held rags over to sparkler ports but the force on the right bank (probably #5) was so fierce it blew all over Jim and both of my bikes, major cleanup ! I also got a new fuel screen for the tank.  Today I removed the carbs, whoever tried to rebuild them before was a real Jackwagon. I found the drool tube missing from air box to the "T" , the plastic heat shield behind the radiator gone (ebay $17)  wait it gets better ! The carb bank is missing the air rail tees completely as well as some of the unnecessary linkage springs between the carbs, I'm surprised it ran at all way back when. Looks like fuel came out of the air port on #5 for a while. Inside is ugly, complete rebuild parts on order as well as going tmrw to get carb soak in the gallon can. you want pics ??

You got it !! cooldude

Jackwagon—— Dexter, you crazy in the coconut!   I wonder if the extra linkage spring deal was cruise control remains?  Anyway, I think it is awesome you have taken the Valk Preservation hat.

Looks like you are having fun Mike.
Maybe I will bring both of mine down this winter, the new one to me is a whole lot worse that that one. Actually, I am starting to wonder if I bought a parts bike.

I see I didn't word that correctly,  the Jackwagon must have felt some of the carb springs were unnecessary and left some out ! Luckily I have a parts bank to replace those and the air rail tees with hoses. For fun here's what the pilot screws were set at.
1.   3/4
2. 3 3/4
3. 1 3/4
4. 1 1/2
5. 2 1/2
6. 2 1/2

Yeah it's fun Jim, I just hope she runs right when I'm done. Your new one must need a lot of the same work, bring it !!

Here's another pat on the back Mike.  Good on you for accepting the challenge.  Each time you do this you'll learn something for the next one.  I thought I had sold or given away all my parts but Iris found a couple of plastic valve stem holders for the old OEM stems the other day.  That's what happens when you have several years of time with these things.  That was before we all went to all metal stems.

Mike, great to hear you are bringing these bikes back from the dead.
You ever gave it some thought about a take off from the show Wheeler Dealer show and others. You always see them bringing cars back to life, why not motorcycles. And you get your face on tv. Pitch it.

Those carbs look ugly. I can’t believe it ran very good hearing about what’s missing. Maybe that’s why he quite riding, just wasn’t quite right. Hopefully I can make it out next weekend.

I bought the Gunk parts cleaner, had to do one carb at a time about 30 minutes each but it does a nice job. Instructions say 20 minutes but I know some guys soak over night, it did clear the one idle jet I couldn't get cleared with just carb cleaner spray. Rinse with the hose and blow dry with the air gun. I tried to clean the floats but it wasn't working out so I will use these nice white ones from my spare carb bank. I found a way to flush the tank with a couple gallons of fresh gas and the mighty vac on the petcock which is working as it should. with one full gallon in the tank it just dribbled out in the "on" position and flowed out freely on reserve so I suspect the fuel screen is gummed up. Looking forward to going to work tomorrow so I can take a break !!  Undecided
