I have an Austone Taxi Tire with 23,000 on it. Tread still looks good, but yesterday in the rain I had two instances of breaking loose. Once under acceleration and once braking. Even though there is good tread, is it time to replace? Is the rubber harder perhaps as the tread wears? I was riding with a bunch of guys with modern bikes with ABS, traction control and rain mode, so I would expect them to be more able to negotiate the wet roads, but the couple of instances I had certainly got my attention.
Contemplating going back to MC tire. Like darkside, there are lots to choose from. Looking at Metzler 880 radials for rear and 888 radial for front (expensive!), but I don't really know the difference on a bike between bias and radial.

Car tires have harder rubber compounds which rely on car weight for traction. The best MC tires for a Valk are Avon Chromes. Bias tires will twitch over undulations in pavement. Stick with radials.

I would agree that most car tires tend to have a harder compound, but that can be mitigated by UHP Summer tires.
Given the Autosone tire has a similar profile to a MC tire (and likely has a harder compound) a bit of slipping isn't surprising. To avoid slipping with a harder compound you'd need a wider tire for a larger contact, but then there are attendant issues which I did not care for.
I've tried several tires over the years and I've always gone back to Avon.

FYI Auston is no longer available, so even if it needs replacing, you'll need to find another brand.
There is a lot of posts, both MC and CT tires. Follow up and check to see what might fit your needs.
As for the Auston, I've not gotten through mine or one I rode with, so unknown how it behaves in the rain when worn.

Pulled the trigger on a set of Avon Cobra Chrome yesterday. Including tax they were $480.53 from Revzilla (yikes!). $60 rebate from Avon, a program that ends at the end of October, makes it a little less painful.
I will probably hold off a whileinstalling, maybe spoon on just before Inzane next year. No rides planned before then.
What kind a pressure are you guys with Chromes using? I was 40lbs in the ATT

Maybe the problem wasn’t the tires but the attic rat infusion?
