Need help. I had intended to purchase the 180/70 R16 but inadvertently purchased a 170/70. Will it fit the rear? I have done the nut cage mod and am replacing an ATT. My guess is this will be a bit wider and "shorter." Engine to rev a bit more and fuel economy to suffer. Right now I enjoy 65mph at around 2800 rmp.

Unless I am misunderstanding the numbers a 170/70 will be slightly more narrow than a 180/70

I like that calculator. You'll fit just fine. What brand/model did you get?

send it back and get the right size.
being shorter in the back will increase the trail number, changing the handling to worst than the stock OEM dia. esp since u enjoyed better handling from the decreased trail number from the taller ATT. being a shorter tire will lower the bike and u will now scrap the pegs more often. will be even worst if u ride two up.
increasing the RPMs at 65mph to over 3k rpm is not fun plus the lower mpg. You will have to live with all of this for the life of the tire. 20k miles?

I am returning for the correct (stock) size. Not the first time I have ordered tires incorrectly. I guess the numbers confuse me. Maybe a little dyslexia.

I am returning for the correct (stock) size. Not the first time I have ordered tires incorrectly. I guess the numbers confuse me. Maybe a little dyslexia. once u have the tire off, look up into the forward area of the fender. there actually is a low spot where it clears the cross support brace of the frame, u can see the brace with the seat removed. A taller tire might have come into contact with the fender, wearing the paint away during extreme suspension travel. I had it happen when I was first testing the 205/65r16 and I/S shocks I installed at the same time. I initially had the I/S shocks set too soft.

I have not rubbed anywhere, and set up for solo riding. ATT has been fine.

just saying to check, u would never see any rubbing on the tire since it is the tread that could contact the top of the fender in that area.

FYI
My notes have the Auston as being a 175/80-16
For those who don't understand what the info is: tire width i mm (175) % of width, in height (80% of 175 = 140 mm high) tire rim diameter
Those tire calculators give you the other thing, like diameter/circumference of the tire. A nice way to compare different widths/%, and try to get one the same dia you had before (or small/bigger). Also speeds a different rpms.
