If you kept outside the wake, you could ski behind that.

I only water skied like three times.
It wasn't skiing, it was more like dragging and drinking a lot of lake water.
The real trick is to let go of the freeking rope after falling.

Maybe you could ski behind it, I’ve never been on a set of skis. How long would the rope have to be to cross over from one side to another?

Don't recollect the length of the tpw rope but I have skied behind a 455 Buick in a 23 ooter with a stern drive and a speed prop. 45 M P H on water is the begining of fast when water skiing. Had a saftey belt cinched up snug and on the 3d or 4th jump on touch down I hooked a ski tip and went airborne sans tow rope and 1 ski they told me later. They also told me the other ski came off near the apex of my launch. I hit the water sorta feet first and when I came up the belt was under my arm pits. Wife noticed next morning I had red rub marks from waist to arm pits. Went water skiing again the next weekend. Even then-early 70s-gas was higher at the marina. Filled up Before we got to the lake. ALWAYS had a good time water skiing. RIDE SAFE.

I think the rope behind that 145mph boat would have to be about 100 yards back, maybe even longer.
Never tried water skiing never been on a big enough hp motor boat to get me up biggest being 60hp mostly fishing boats. I did get up my neighbors though 150-160 lbs. on a local lake water skiing behind my 17 foot alumacraft fishing boat with tiller 40 hp mercury. It struggled but finally got on plane just barely fast enough with one person upfront to keep the front end from going FULL UP and just fast enough guessing 25-30 mph top speed with them water skiing behind me rope tied to the back hook on one side. Not recommended, but worked, just barely. Top speed with 2 people was 38 mph as registered by my gps which is plenty fast enough for a tiller outboard for me. I have had 5 adults in that boat and NOT good barely made it too plane out 20 mph tops is all full throttle way too much weight in that boat never again will do more than 4 adults with 3 being ideal.

Cookie, I just have to ask. If you've never been water skiing, how did you come up with that distance behind a boat? Rams

I lived on water skis as a teenager and after the USAF term. A friend had an inboard boat that would go 56 mph. It’s fun racing other boats while towing a skier. Oh not fun for the skier though. Sometimes I looked like a rock that was skipped by a skilled thrower. It takes a long time to slow down at that speed.

My son has a boat that has twin 578 cubic inch supercharged V8s. The bottom/hull has three levels (or what ever you call them). He says it smooths out nicely once it's up on plane on the rear or back of the boat. He tells me it'll do a little over a hundred mph. He's had it up to about 70 with Mom and I on board. Scared the hell out of my wife and I was hanging on for dear life. I can honestly state that I don't really care if I ever get back on that boat.
It wasn't so much about the speed that I didn't like but, there were just too many other boaters on the lake (it was the biggest lake in KY) and ya just didn't know which way they were going to turn. Wouldn't even think of trying to ski behind him/it.
I used to ski but realized it's something you have to practice to be good at and doing it a few times every summer won't make you good.
